Yinki Wong turned her own mental health journey into a tool to help others find peace and healing. Check out how she gets it done.
We love entrepreneurs and small business owners at Honeycombers, which is why we’ve created Launchpad, a comprehensive digital networking platform (with IRL benefits, too) that encourages connection, business support and community. It is a privilege and pleasure to learn from so many talented and creative folks, so we’ve decided to share the love by interviewing some of the lovely Launchpad members. Looking for inspiration? Check out how Yinki Wong gets it done like a boss.
How I get it done: Yinki Wong
How and why did you decide to launch your business?
I started Yin-Ki Wellness & Coaching because I want to facilitate others who are on the journey of achieving holistic wellness, alignment, self-love and acceptance. I was in a completely different industry before, but I was incredibly stressed and I suffered from poor mental health. So I started to dive into the path of becoming well from the inside out, through a blend of clinical and holistic means. I want to let others know that the path of recovery is possible, and to be an example of someone who has healed and is healing, is joyful and is beaming with life through holistic wellness.
As I’ve been on the receiving end of holistic healing and empowerment coaching, I know first-hand how much I’ve been able to change, grow, and expand. This gave me the courage and determination to start my own business! So I want to give back to those who are traveling a similar path. I’m showing up as the person I wish I could have turned to while undergoing those difficulties. I am so inspired to share what I’ve learned, and to facilitate others’ healing. I’ve turned this passion into practical knowledge for the real world—helping stressed out busy bodies to incorporate skills that they can use in everyday life—and guiding them to embrace and transform both mind and body! Inherently, I believe that we are all born whole, yet we all need to seek help and support each other to navigate the ebbs and flows of life.
What does the Launchpad community mean to you?
It means a lot to me to be a “Launchpad(er!)” I’m so excited and honoured to be in community with like-minded entrepreneurs who are passionate about their ideas, and have the power to drive change in society. As an individual, I have invested in building my own resilience and independence. But at the same time, I also need to be nurtured by the energy of community—of sharing ideas and having a sounding board to bounce off on, and of being listened to by people who understand what it’s like. I love Launchpad’s inspiring focus on creating connection within the community, a profound appreciation of mutual interdependence, and a shared responsibility to respect and care for one another.
Why is community important for entrepreneurs?
Community is so important because magic happens when people who have the same values support each other! To know you’re not alone when similar issues come up, and being able to unpack them with those who are on the same path is priceless. Ultimately as humans, we are social beings. There’s a German term called freudenfreude, which constitutes the enjoyment of others’ peoples’ success—as opposed to experiencing envy or jealousy, which is schadenfreude. Psychology research has found that actually a lack of freudenfreude leads to failed relationships and depression. As someone who has experienced mental stress, I can confirm that this couldn’t be more true. There is nothing more valuable to me than celebrating successes together. I love that this cultivates empathy and establishes genuine intimacy. Community is so valuable to me.
What’s the one thing you cannot live without?
There is no negotiation around my morning meditation routine—it grounds me and sets me up for the day. Even if I’m really busy, I reserve ten minutes at least! I make sure to reset my energy in the morning, and/or throughout the day, especially when I’m finding it hard to complete the tasks I need, or to hold space for clients. I am very meticulous about setting my intentions and energy, because my clients come to me as a source of support and compassion. Everything is energy. I love that the more I focus on energy and vitality, the more that I’m able to give back to my loved ones, my clients and the greater community.
How I get it done: Lightning round
On a typical morning: I bring awareness to my consciousness through meditation, finding moments and time for stillness in the early hours of the morning, and resetting my energy.
On dealing with self-doubt and criticism: I work on detaching from the ego, leaning deeper into truth and faith, and trusting myself and the universe.
On the hardest part about the job: I still struggle with the desire to manage things that are out of my control. Yet with every setback, I say to myself, “Okay, what can I learn from this?” This helps me pivot more easily and find the silver lining in every situation.
On keeping stress levels low: I focus on truly enjoying the process in my work, staying away from high levels of caffeine, nourishing myself with plant-based foods that light me up, and making intentional time to be offline. I know how to compartmentalise my time and life so that I’m able to dedicate time for play and rest, yet still be high performing and complete the tasks I’ve set out for the day.
On staying motivated and energised: Being organised! I like kicking it old school and having a physical planner. Since so many things are digital now, I find sacredness in physicality. For me, organisation is such a beautiful form of self care; it allows me to clear any clutter to make room for more expansive headspace.
On winding down in the evening: This might sound really trivial, but allowing my body to comprehend that it is night time by dimming the lights and embracing the night. Since we are constantly surrounded by technology and harsh lighting now, I realised I was having difficulty winding down and falling asleep because my biology and body can’t just shut off immediately like a computer. It’s so important to allow the mind and body to adapt and gradually turn off.
On the advice you’d give your younger self: Everything is happening for you, and not to you. (Something I still tell myself on the daily!) You are so precious and sacred, you serve a purpose in this world. Show up as your authentic self, trust that the universe has your back, and know that only you have the uniqueness that you share. You came into this world to thrive, don’t dim that fiery flame, passion and love inside. Intellect isn’t everything. Love is.
