What’s on in Hong Kong Arts Month?
Little Thunder #ME Book Release Exhibition
Internationally-renowned Hong Kong illustrator Little Thunder will be having her book release exhibition at Still House HAVEN from 24 March to 11 April. Using pure watercolour, it took Little Thunder over a year to produce her comic art book #ME that features beautiful portraits and stories of forty-four unique girls. There will also be a book signing session on 24 March, from 6 – 7.30pm!

BOUND by Jo Farrell
Award-winning photographer Jo Farrell has documented the lives of the last remaining bound feet women of China through photographs. They are essential historical and social records that portray the unique stories of these women unlike any other. The exhibition Bound will be held at Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences from 18 March to 31 March, and is absolutely not-to-be-missed during Hong Kong Arts Month.

I Was Not Invited (The Organ Grinder’s Canto) by Leila Hekmat
On 29 March, Duddell’s Hong Kong and Galerie Isabella Bortolozzi, Berlin, will be co-presenting the musical performance I Was Not Invited (The Organ Grinder’s Canto) by American artist Leila Hekmat. It will then extend to an array of exhibitions, art lectures, film screenings as part of the Duddell’s Art Programme that showcase everything from costumes to photographs. The exhibition will run until 28 June.

Remi Rough at Quarry Bay MTR
As part of Hong Kong Arts Month, British artist Remi Rough will bring vibrant energy to Taikoo Place exit at Quarry Bay MTR station with a brilliant and site-specific new geometric mural. Rough reimagines the public place with his abstract coloured shapes and straight edges, hoping to visually stimulate and excite the public on their daily commute starting from 23 March.

Onion Peterman Fall In Fall Out Solo Exhibition
Fall In, Fall Out is a solo exhibition of talented local illustrator Onion Peterman. Having gone to Fish Factory Creative Centre in Stöðvarfjörður, Iceland for an artist residency in fall of 2017, Onion Peterman was exposed to a different way of living and tranquility. Such surrealistic environment has inspired her to create a new series of paintings, which will be showcased at common room & co. in Sham Shui Po from 2 March to 17 March. Be sure to support local artists this Hong Kong Arts Month.

MEDIA X MUMM Art Exhibition
MEDIA X MUMM initiative has invited urban graffiti artist Bisco Smith to Hong Kong for this year’s art exhibition. The New York-based artist is most known for incorporating graffiti deconstruction, gestural abstraction and lyric based style-writing. Having marked the commencement of Hong Kong Art Week with a cutting-edge live painting performance during First Night, his brilliant art piece will be displayed through the entirety of the fair at the MEDIA X MUMM BEACH CLUB at Art Central from 26 March to 1 April.

Curated by Tim Marlow, Artistic Director at the Royal Academy of Arts, Harbour Arts Sculpture Park is the first international sculpture park in Hong Kong. Until 11 April, you will get to see over twenty pieces of innovative and uniquely built sculptures created by promising international and local artists out in the open at Central and Western District Promenade and Wan Chai. We’re pretty excited for the new addition to Hong Kong Arts Month, so don’t miss out!

Transcending Matter
From 23 March to 19 April, Transcending Matter at Opera Gallery will feature the brilliant works of three Korean artists: Yoo Bong-Sang, Seo Young-Deok and Lee Gil-Rae. The exhibition will emphasise the varying aesthetics relating to their use of material that arise within each artist’s practice, as well as the commonality in their thematic explorations.

Jim Lambie – Spiral Scratch
Spiral Scratch, established by Scottish contemporary artist Jim Lambie, will bring audiences to a sensory dimension at Pacific Place from 19 March to 8 April. This distinctive site-specific work juxtaposes an intricate, rhythmic floor pattern with a collection of fifteen ladders painted in vivid hues, creating an unconventional kaleidoscopic interaction of colour, shape and form.

Urban Art at Taikoo Park
As a celebration of the streets and urban art, three British artists, Phil Ashcroft, Graeme Brusby (aka Xenz) and Duncan Jago (aka Mr Jago), will paint murals in Taikoo Park from 22 March to 24 March. The living painting aims to lighten up the space with street art’s vibrant energy. Also, murals of smaller canvases will be sold individually to raise funds for the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation’s programme for disadvantaged and underprivileged youth.

Notating Beauty That Moves
Notating Beauty That Moves is a multimedia exhibition curated by Samson Young and Yang Yeung. It features a series of live performances for viewers to attain a better understanding of musicality through different forms of motion. Running until 29 March, the exhibits are showing at Artistree, and include musical scores, works-on-paper, drawings, moving images and more by avant-garde composers Cathy Berberian, John Cage, Mark Applebaum, Morgan O’Hara and co-curator Samson Young.

Asia Contemporary Art Show
Back for another Hong Kong Arts Month, from 23 March to 26 March, the 12th Asia Contemporary Art Show will feature 2,500 artworks at Pacific Place, consisting of original paintings, limited editions, sculpture and photography from some of the world’s most promising artists.

Art Basel
International art fair Art Basel will make its long-anticipated return to Hong Kong from 29 March to 31 March, showcasing 248 premier Modern and contemporary art galleries from 32 countries, with over half of them from Asia and the Asia Pacific region.

Art Central
Art Central will return to Hong Kong for its fourth edition from 26 March to 1 April, 2018. Featuring over 100 leading international galleries, the fair’s impressive lineup will present a diverse range of emerging talent alongside established art world favourites. There will also be programmes of large-scale installations, cutting edge new media, performance, talks, panel discussions and more!

HKwalls 2018
During every Hong Kong Arts Month, non-profit arts organisation HKwalls holds an annual street art festival in Hong Kong. They are dedicated to promoting local and international talents through the medium of street art, murals and street culture. And they will return from 24 March to 1 April for Hong Kong Arts Month. This is always one of our favourites, as you get to watch the art come to life before your eyes on buildings throughout the city: #supportlocal
