Young Soy Gallery unveils its latest group exhibition, titled “Unmasked”. This gathers four Hong Kong artists, Mr Koo, Louis Jaubere, Jerome Leung, Sai Pradhan, alongside international artist Jake Scharbach. Challenging the tradition of portraiture, this exhibition invites you to see portraits as mirrors that reflect social conditions and shared emotions.
Mr Koo and Jerome Leung draws references from their everyday encounters to explore the transformative power of emotions. The nuances of human connections are expressed through ambiguous faces and mouthless figures in the artists’ works respectively. On the other hand, Louis Jaubere and Jake Scharbach interrogate celebrity culture and power structures that dictate society through a series of mixed media works. Finally, Sai Pradhan challenges narratives of work and (un-)productivity through a collection of paintings.
