International exchange and collaboration is the creative driving force behind the artistic version of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Contemporary Dance Series (CDS), 2019’s CDS features UK-born, Belgium-based dancer-choreographer Jos Baker. During his residency in the city, Baker will collaborate with four selected local dance talents to create two 30-minute duets.
Echoing Baker’s vibrant international dance career, CDS veterans Tracy Wong and Mao Wei have begun touring their original works to arts festivals worldwide—will their diverse experiences creating and performing abroad generate unimagined possibilities? Fellow participant Zhu Xinyun’s Chinese folk dance training is matched with Jimmy Suen’s hip-hop street style—will these two extremes forge electrifying new dance vocabularies?
This creative residency gives full support to the creation and rehearsal of new work. Breaking artistic and geographical boundaries with close collaboration and dedicated experimentation, Double Bubble taps into our most primal languages of movement and the body, connecting audiences with universal truth.
