House 1881 will proudly host Sake Walk 2019 from September 19 to 21 this year. The three-day event includes sake pairing dinner, sake and food booths as well as sake masterclasses. One of Hong Kong’s largest sake events to date will present a selection of more than 80 sakes from 14 breweries within the historic House 1881 Courtyard and The Lawn. From curious tipplers to sake lovers and connoisseurs, all guests are welcome to explore, sample or purchase any of the sakes on display.
An exclusive sake pairing dinner will take place on Thursday September 19 at House 1881’s historic Café Parlour. Chefs will prepare a five-course dinner paired with eight varieties of premium sake from different Prefectures across Japan. The indulgent and inspiring menu includes Duck Liver Terrine, Drunken Abalone, Alaskan Crab and Slow-Cooked Wagyu. Brewery representatives will guide diners through the menu and share their brewing philosophies. Priced at HK$1,800 per person (excluding 10% service charge), the dinner starts with welcome drinks at 19:00.
Open to the public from 12:00-22:00 on September 21 at House 1881, Sake Walk 2019 showcases a selection of 80 sakes from 14 breweries across Japan. Located within the House 1881 Courtyard and The Lawn, breweries will display their finest selections at designated booths while guests can browse, taste, and buy sake, cocktails, glassware and gifts. Aside from the sake tasting experience, there will also be live performances and interactive games to entertain guests. Some notable breweries include: Juyondai, the highly coveted world-famous sake brand; Kikusaki, a sake carefully crafted at the Kyoto-based Toji temple; Senkin, a sake known for its high acidity and vintage variations; and Zankyo, a premium 350-hour yearly-brewed sake.
Sake Walk 2019 entry costs HK$100 and includes a premium sake glass. HK$280 tickets are also available and include 10 tasting tokens, entry to the event, and a premium sake glass. Admission for children under 12 is free.
There will also be a series of Sake masterclasses designed for those looking to deepen their knowledge and understanding of this premium alcoholic drink. Masterclasses comprise of a 60-minute talk followed by a guided tasting of four sake varieties. All classes will be hosted by a representative of the Asia Wine Service & Education Center (AWSEC) and masterclass tickets are priced at HK$140 inclusive of four sake varieties, entry to the event, and a premium sake glass to take home.
