Cartier collaborated with New Material Research Laboratory to present the exhibition Cartier, Crystallization of Time. It is open to the public from now to Dec 16th at The National Art Center Tokyo. Gathering more than 300 exceptional pieces, the exhibition explores the innovative world of Cartier designs through the three perspectives of “Material Transformation and Colors”, “Forms and Designs” and “Universal Curiosity” along the axis of time.
For the first time ever, this exhibition focuses on the designs of contemporary pieces from the 1970s onwards, the retrospective also moves freely between different eras. These works are exhibited together with the pieces from the Cartier Collection, which contains historical items created by Cartier in earlier periods. This is also a precious opportunity to appreciate many privately-owned works from around the world that are usually hidden from the public eye. Cartier, Crystallization of Time is based on the perennial beauty found in Cartier creations across the boundaries of time.
The layout of the venue was designed by Hiroshi Sugimoto and Tomoyuki Sakakida from New Material Research Laboratory. Based on the principle that “old materials are indeed new”, their design fuses traditional artisanal techniques with the latest technologies to create contemporary details. They have crafted an exhibition space that is navigated with a consciousness of “time,” proposing a new experience in the appreciation of the works.
