When we saw Big Richard make a splash with its steamy and sex positive Instagram page, we knew we had to sit down with the Founders and find out more.

Which is why we just HAD to sit down with Jack Yan and Julien Dath, the Founders of Big Richard to find out more about their recently-launched condom brand and their steamy marketing campaigns.
Hi, Jack and Julien. Thanks for chatting with us. Tell us a little bit about yourselves and why you wanted to get into the world of condoms.
(JY) We’re two Australian’s that moved to Hong Kong more than five years ago and became friends through our mutual obsession for Hong Kong’s quintessential cuisine…hotpot! After many eating sessions, we realised we were both passionate about health, sex and entrepreneurship, and wanted create something that we’d be proud of in Hong Kong.
(JD) It all started with trying to buy condoms at the supermarket and awkwardly crab walking back and forth past the condom shelves at the checkouts! We could feel the judgment on our backs and could never get the right ones! But also coming from overseas, we were surprised at how expensive they are in Hong Kong and how few options people have here to buy quality condoms. So we decided to set our sights on more affordable condoms but also to fight the taboos around sex and eliminate that awkwardness.
How is Big Richard different from other brands already on the market?
(JY) We’re no different, that’s the beauty of Big Richard! Our condoms are made from the same manufacturers and are the same quality as the big brands except we want to make it more affordable, reducing barriers around safe sex habits and make safe sex great again.
Your social marketing has a lot of good information and is super sex positive. What has the feedback been like from the public?
(JD) The feedback has been amazing. Providing a platform for people to freely express their sexuality has been awesome. We’ve received many messages from people who answer our posts and have used their stories as inspiration for future posts. We want to keep pushing to normalise conversations about sex, fight those taboos and get as many condoms on…we mean in peoples hands.
What’s your hope for the brand in the future?
(JY) We want to normalise all aspects of sexual identity and wellness so we hope to expand our product range beyond condoms in the future. In order for us to meet our goals, we’ll have to keep fighting the uphill battle against the taboos and misconceptions around sex so we’ll need all the help we can get.
