Red Lobster
Seafood lovers need to get excited because Red Lobster is finally here in Hong Kong. Sitting in the heart of Causeway Bay, this global brand brings its signature dishes, including The Ultimate Feast, a platter of seafood deliciousness made up of lobster tail, snow crab legs, garlic shrimp scampi and more, all served with cocktail sauce and hot drawn butter. But there are some exclusive menu items that take inspo from The 852 itself, and that’s what’s really getting us excited, particularly the Typhoon Shelter Lobster and the Salted Egg Shrimp. Don’t miss chowing down on those world renowned Cheddar Bay Biscuits too.

Associazione Chianti

Another new opening from Black Sheep Restaurants to close out 2019, Associazione Chianti is a Tuscan trattoria on restaurant-lined Ship Street in Wan Chai. Helmed by Executive Chef Josh Stumbaugh, guests can expect an ingredients-focused menu with a great selection of prime cuts sourced from Black Angus cattle raised on pastures in Idaho. Once dry aged in-house, sample the thick cut Bistecca alla Fiorentina with friends, or opt for other dishes such a Garganelli Omaggio a Cammillo, housemade pasta with Chianti beef ragu.

Miss Lee

Now in its soft-open phase, Miss Lee is the latest launch from ZS Hospitality, the same group that brought you Lee Lo Mei and Lee Ho Sing. Focusing on modern Chinese vegetarian dishes, we can’t wait to try the Golden Flowers with cauliflower, mushroom and salted egg yolk, and the Smoky Quartz skewers made from king mushroom, shiitake and asparagus. Best of all, Miss Lee will have a takeaway counter with grab-and-go options available throughout the week.

Uncle Desi Food and Sons

A completely digital restaurant opening from Black Sheep Restaurants, Uncle Desi Food and Sons pays tribute to the people of South Asia who moved their homes to the UK, the USA, and beyond. The menu is inspired by your local Indian takeaway joints, with faves including aloo samosa, Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Rogan Josh. Delivering from Kennedy Town to Tai Hang, it’s just for HK Island side right now, but will hopefully expand its range soon.

Lee Lo Mei

Lee Lo Mei is back open for business on Lyndhurst Terrace with an interior that takes influence from 1960s Hong Kong and a completely refreshed menu. Blending Cantonese cooking techniques with nostalgic flavours, dig into dishes such as Crabulous Noodles, King Crab with noodles in a tomato and Thai basil dressing; or Salmon says Yum!, Norwegian salmon and Chinese-style Venus clam steamed egg. The set-lunch menu, starting at $158, will give hungry Central workers another option too, with a selection of meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes, all served with Flooding Scholar Soup and a sweet finale.

Gontran Cherrier

K11 Musea is home to the first restaurant and boulangerie from fourth generation French baker Gontran Cherrier. The queues here are definitely warranted, with perfectly crunchy baguettes and epic croissants being the order of the day. We love the traditional-style flan and the wonderfully flavourful Yuzu Tart from the sweet section too.
To complement the bakery, there’s also an 80-seat restaurant that is inspired by a French bistro. With a menu serving classics like French Onion Soup, alongside a variety of other delights, including Tomato Salad with Creamy Burrata and Squid Ink Risotto with Seafood across lunch, brunch and dinner.

Game Menu at DiVino and DiVino Patio

To celebrate the change of seasons, both DiVino and DiVino Patio will be serving a delectable game menu throughout November. Featuring produce direct from Italian regions such as Tuscany and Marche, the seasonal fare includes deer, rabbit, duck and wild boar, all popular ingredients typically eaten during the cooler months in Italy, and all sourced from suppliers with sustainable hunting practices. At DiVino, look out for the likes of hand-made black pepper scented pappardelle pasta tossed with a rich Tuscany wild boar ragout and wild mushrooms and Casereccie pasta from Gragnano with Mallard duck sauce. While at DiVino Patio, Chef Matteo has dishes such as Red Deer carpaccio, beetroot, goat cheese and cress and cacao cannelloni filled with wild rabbit, cheese fondue and chestnut on the menu.

The Ground Kitchen

A new little space tucked away in Sai Ying Pun, The Ground Kitchen serves a range of hearty options for lunch and dinner. You won’t miss the space with its bright blue facade, and inside, you’ll find an intimate spot to enjoy a selection of seafood, pasta and vegetable dishes.

Crit Room

The newest restaurant on the Sheung Wan dining scene, Crit Room is all about good Italian food, wine, opinions and ideas. Nestled away on Tai Ping Shan Street, this moody new spot is the kind of place you’ll want to hang with friends and chat about how you plan on fixing the world.

Grissini

Technically not new, but definitely revamped, Grissini at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is back with a refreshed menu thanks to Chef de Cuisine Marcello Scognamiglio and some new interior design touches. Serving homely, country-style dishes from various regions of Italy, you can expect wonderfully fresh flavours from signature dishes like vitello tonnato (veal in tuna sauce), spaghettini with grey mullet bottarga and perfect tiramisu served table-side for a little interactive fun. We love the giant Amalfi lemons on the tables and those gorgeous (and giant) bread sticks too.

Asaya Kitchen
Complementing Asaya, the wellness programme at Rosewood Hong Kong, we’re super excited for the launch of Asaya Kitchen, a special spot on level six serving wholesome and healthy fare. Helmed by Chef Renaud Marin (the man behind the much beloved Cochin) guests can expect nutrient-rich dishes inspired by Mediterranean and Japanese diets, with lashings of plant-based alternatives and sustainable and local products. We can’t wait for this one!

Bayfare Social to open first two restaurants

We’ve been waiting patiently for the first openings from this new independent dining concept from Rosewood Hong Kong and it looks like November is the month. Helming Bayfare Social Gastro Market, Chef de Cuisine Alvaro Ramos, previously of el Willy in Shanghai and Kommune in Hong Kong, will blend Spanish cooking techniques with Asian influences and ingredients at the vibrant and open central eatery.

Chef Nathan Green will launch Henry a premium meat-focused restaurant at Bayfare Social in November. Utilising wood-fired ovens, much as he did at beloved Rhoda, Green will serve meat enthusiasts a selection of dry-aged produce, with a butcher shop on site for guests to enjoy homemade sausages and terrines at home. Word on the street is he’ll only be serving American cheeses at Henry, and we have our fingers and toes crossed that he’s planning some epic vegetable dishes to complement the meatiness.

Zeng

Another new eatery to land in Causeway Bay, Zeng is all about serving innovative cocktails and cuisine from its location on the 30th floor of V Point. Offering views of Victoria Harbour, enjoy a drink on the terrace before sampling dishes such as Truffle Flat Rice Noodles with Ribeye, Salmon Zuke Sushi and Jumbo Prawn Tempura.

Poem
With Chef de Cuisine Denny Sumarko at the helm, Poem brings the flavours of Bali to Hong Kong. The interior highlights beautiful batik and batik stamps on the walls, while above the antique bar table hangs a rare ironwood carving. Poem utilises sustainably sourced ingredients to craft dishes such as the Signature Satay Sampler, Lamb Shank and Wagyu Short Ribs.

The Cakery

Another new opening in Causeway Bay, The Cakery has expanded its organic, gluten-free and vegan-friendly options to its new location in Lee Gardens Two. A highlight of the new opening is the lower calorie afternoon tea, which is 100% vegan. Expect delights such as Mixed Mushroom Sandwich, Stuffed Romesco Quinoa Baby Eggplant, and Lemon Tart.

Micasadeco & Café

Osaka-born, Micasadeco & Café is the first international branch of the Japanese favourite, opening inside Langham Place, Mong Kok. Sample the renowned Ricotta Cheese Pancake alongside a selection of other tasty (and Instagram-ready) delights. We’re pumped to try the fluffy Matcha Pancakes and the Micasadeco Brown Rice Japanese Bowl with Mentaiko too.

Ruam

Casual thai hits Wan Chai in the shape of Ruam (pronounced Roo-um) on Ship Street this month. We’re pumped to enjoy delish cocktails and Thai market favourites on the roomy terrace, including Gai Ping, grilled chicken skewers with peanut sauce; Moo Dad Deauw, sun-dried pork strips with toasted sesame seeds and sriracha; and Gaeng Phed Ped Yang, a red curry with lychees and crispy-skinned duck. Duck & Waffle

The first restaurant outside of London for this well-loved brand, Duck & Waffle Hong kong has opened its doors at IFC and is ready to feed you now. Featuring British cuisine with influences from America and Europe, the signature dish is the eponymous Duck & Waffle, confit duck leg sandwiched between waffles and completed with a crisp fried duck egg topped with mustard maple syrup – wowzers. The menu is designed to share, with other highlights including Foie Gras Crème Brûlée, Spiced Ox Cheek Doughnut and Grilled Octopus. Can’t wait? Southside has a new eatery in the form of Te Quiero Mucho Taqueria. Get ready for your fill of tacos, burritos and tortas, Wong Chuk Hang family, brought to you by the same team as behind our beloved TQM in Sheung Wan. Favourites to look out for include the Mexican Torta, with pork milanesa, tomatillo salsa, fried beans and queso fresco; and the Chicken Adobo Burrito dressed with chipotle mayo and pico de gallo – yum! The food scene at Hong Kong airport is growing by the day, with Wolfgang Puck Kitchen the latest to open its doors in the arrivals hall. The Lounge at Zest by Konishi

You’ve tried The Dining Room, and now it’s time to try The Lounge. Sitting high in Central, this chic cocktail haven on On Lan Street offers a cocktail experience inspired by the ingredients sourced from destinations along the maritime trade routes, including South America, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
Alongside the cocktails, you can enjoy a range of bar snacks, including Yellowtail Carpaccio served with house-made ponzu; Soy Ginger Marinated Red Tuna Watermelon Skewers; and Mini Wagyu Beef Burger served with French fries, with daily bento box lunches available between 12-5pm.

Duddell’s Hong Kong International Airport

Another newbie at the airport, this time in the departure hall, is Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant Duddell’s. Now, before you wing your way abroad, you can fill up on your favourite dumplings, soups and even a new item on the menu: Roast Goose. Enjoy your meal in the food court or opt to get it takeaway, alongside a range of specialty drinks like cold brew tea and bottled kombucha.

New restaurant openings in Hong Kong 2019: September
JALAN

From Meraki Hospitality Group, who brought you Uma Nota and BEDU, comes JALAN, a restaurant set to bring the best flavours of Malaysia to Hong Kong in late September. Guests will be able to enjoy a hawker-style menu featuring Chinese, Indian and Malay influences at this Peel Street spot, all brought together by Head Chef Saumitra Suryavanshi who spent years in Malaysia finessing his talents.
We’re excited to try the Black Pepper Eggplant and the Laksa Fried Chicken, and the Pandan Custard Doughnuts sound amazing too. Of course we’ll be washing it all down with various cocktails and mocktails, including the Masala Mule – yum! And what about those interiors for the Gram? Well, word on the street is that JALAN is inspired by 70s Borneo, meaning leafy greens and vibrant colours fill the space. We can’t wait for this one!

Lovers of all things avocado unite, as the famed London Avobar opens its doors in Hong Kong. While we’re not sure of the exact opening date, get ready to chow down on burgers made of avo, avo ice cream, avo drinks; it’s just avo paradise really. Gunpowder Indian RestoBar

Tentatively set to open in the second week of September, Gunpowder is about to explode in Wan Chai thanks to Mayfare Group, the same team behind Gaylord and Namo Avant Thai Restaurant.
This modern Indian RestoBar will feature dimsum portions with an Indian twist, known as IndiSum, grills from the tandoor, exotic curries and freshly baked breads. Highlights are expected to be the Gunpowder Chicken, Prawn Rum Bomb and Nizam’s Tacos. Also featuring a bar, this new spot will be serving up brunch, lunch and dinner, so get ready for it – boom!

SKYE GastroBar

Another new opening to try this month, SKYE GastroBar is a lounge concept that sits adjacent to SKYE Roofbar and Dining inside The Parklane Hong Kong, a Pullman Hotel in Causeway Bay. Offering a farm-to-table concept and helmed by Chef Lee Adams, the casual setting features a simple and creative menu that features locally-grown ingredients and sustainable seafood.
We just loved the Local and Organic Heirloom Tomatoes, with Smoked Burrata Cheese and the Hand-Cut Stockyard Wagyu Beef Sirloin Tartare. And don’t miss the cocktail menu that spans the globe and is packaged in a passport.

Zest by Konishi

Right in the heart of Central, Zest by Konishi is the brainchild of Japanese chef Mitsuru Konishi and Lai Sun Dining. The multi-level restaurant features The Dining Room, that serves elegant Japanese cuisine with a French twist and The Lounge, that offers an express menu including bento boxes and Nippon-inspired cocktails.

Peony Garden

Sitting inside the newly-opened Xiqu Centre and overlooking Victoria Harbour, Peony Garden is a tea house that adds a little nostalgia to this modern building. Serving up a range of well-known comfort foods and snacks, including cart noodles, Cantonese roast meats and pineapple buns, the restaurant features a garden-style design that takes guests back to an ancient-style Chinese courtyard with a 3-metre pavillion-shaped frame.

Moon Lok Chinese Restaurant

Another new opening inside the Xiqu Centre in West Kowloon Cultural District, Moon Lok Chinese Restaurant offers a selection of dim sum and classic dishes from regions across China. With Chef Hui Mei-Tak at the helm, cuisines from Shanghai to Sichuan are represented, as well as Chiu Chow style seafood pots, Cantonese style Baked Crab Meat Stuffed in Crab Shell and a selection of roast meats.

Le Comptoir is getting set to open Steaklub in Wan Chai this Autumn. Expect timeless steak dishes executed with the flavours and techniques of the best Asian cuisine here. While there’s no set launch date yet, it’s another one to keep your eyes peeled for.

KiKi Noodle Bar

Taiwan’s favourite chic noodle bar has just landed at ifc Mall in Central. Styled after a Zen courtyard, the restaurant seats just 32, with a rustic interior and communal oak tables where guests can enjoy noodle dishes crafted by Chef Albert Au Kwok Keung, the world’s youngest Michelin three-star Chinese chef. Modern classics include: KiKi Meat Dumpling Mixed Noodles and Abalone and Fish Maw Noodles in Chicken Soup. A selection of rice dishes are also available, along with bubble teas brewed from a traditional Taiwanese tea recipe.

Kakure

Located inside Landmark in Central, Kakure is a Ginza-style (read: luxe) teppanyaki restaurant that also serves sushi with seafood flown in daily from Japan and a selection of other Japanese delights including Hida Beef tenderloin and Beef Sukiyaki Hotpot. Step inside the hidden bar and enjoy over 120 rare and vintage whiskies along with a range of signature cocktails, it’s the perfect spot to retreat after a busy day at work.

Honjo

Opening in late July, Honjo is set to be a 120-seat Japanese restaurant on the border of Central and Sheung Wan. Designed by Ben McCarthy of Charlie & Rose, the restaurant will have a retro futuristic vibe filled with vibrant colours and intricate details. Separated into four themed dining areas – Tin Toys Lobby, Safari Room, Red Armoury and Blue Suite, each space will offer a unique place to enjoy high-quality sushi, sashimi and tempura along with other Japanese dishes crafted from top quality ingredients.

Helmed by Chef Vito Chan, Root Central in H Code serves seasonal produce in a cosy and modern ambience. Expect local and international ingredients prepared using traditional French techniques here, with dishes such as Yellow Chicken with Jerusalem puree and Te Mana Lamb.

Feather & Bone Mid-Levels and Wan Chai

The team behind Feather & Bone has been very busy opening two new locations in July. Head into the new Wan Chai branch and find all the products you know and love, along with a bread window and a dining area serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Wan Chai branch launched just before the renowned deli and grocer launched its second Mid-Levels location on Shelley Street. Located across the street from the eatery that opened last year, the new store homes an extended butcher and dry-ageing room, its own bread window and a selection of products, including an eco-friendly cleaning range.

Tell Camellia

Another opening to look out for at the end of July, Tell Camellia is a bar that blends the worlds of tea and cocktails (two of our favourite things!), using experimental techniques to capture some truly unique flavours. Led by industry experts Gagun Gurung and Sandeep Hathiramani, the menu will feature teas sourced from across the globe, from Kenya to Sri Lanka.

TMK

Set to open on Queen’s Road West mid-July, TMK is the latest venue from Pirata Group, the same team behind some of our fave restaurants in town, including Pici and TokyoLima. Led by Executive Chef Miguel Huelamo and supported by Japanese Head Chef Takeshi Suzuki, the menu will offer signature hand rolls, sashimi and freshly rolled temaki filled with king crab, bluefin toro and more. We hear that the vibe will be very communal, with a headbanging soundtrack and a dive-bar feel.

Chef Peggy Chan’s Grassroots Pantry is evolving. The plant-based concept will transform into Nectar from 25 July, utilising the existing space but offering a new progressive and plant-driven tasting experience. Sip Song
Maximal Concepts are adding to their outlets at The Repulse Bay, as they prepare to open Sip Song, a Thai eatery and bar, at the end of June. Guests can look forward to signature dishes like “Don’t tell Mom” Roti pancake (BBQ pork neck, chili jam, spring onion, fresh herbs, crispy shallot) and Kai Loog Keuy (minced chicken with crispy shallot and chili), with a menu inspired by Head Chef Nuch Srichantranon’s childhood in Bangkok. Lai Chi Kok is the latest district to get its very own branch of the popular pasta restaurant, Pici. NOBU Satsuki Grain Buds Omakase

As part of NOBU’s Roku-Wareki Japanese Gourmet Experience, Chapter 3 has unfolded with the launch of the Satsuki Grai Buds Omakase Menus. Crafted from unique seasonal ingredients, the menu also reflects the change in seasonal cooking styles as we welcome spring/summer, and, having tasted the astounding 8-course dinner menu, we can fully vouch for the deliciousness.
Highlights include uni and kisu sashimi, roasted itoyori, A5 Japanese Wagyu with sweet truffle onion soy and an exquisite pandan chiffon with lime and coconut ice cream, kuromitsu honeycomb and Pineapple. The menu is available until 30 June.

The Pansodan

JIA Group and Ivan Pun’s Pun + Projects bring The Pansodan to the city, serving up traditional Burmese fare until the end of July. Taking over the space which once housed Fish School, this pop-up showcases a variety of dishes, including salads, noodles, biriyani, and highlights the nation’s popular flavours, such as tamarind, lemongrass and ginger.
