There’s almost no need to travel out to catch a gig anymore, especially since it seems like everyone’s swinging by Singapore for a concert these days! Just when you think you’ve saved enough moolah for that ticket to Damien Rice, you now gotta smash the piggy bank for a chance to catch Copeland. Well guess what? This #firstworldproblem isn’t gonna get any better – a happy crisis, no less! We just caught wind of three whoppin’ shows that’ll kick up a storm in the live music landscape, and punters are already getting fidgety – as are we.
Kult Kafe is really turning into the slickest party hangout in SG thanks to shows like this! Figure8 Agency and Revival Agency are bringing the French to town, with a double-bill gig that will leave you in dreamy awe. Anoraak returns to Singapore with a synth-gushing soundtrack reminiscent of an ’80s video game fantasy, as does Saycet (now a solo act) with a misty, electronic showcase that’s both entrancing and unsettling. No one does it as sophisticatedly as the French, oui?
A slider with the ID of 518 doesn't exist.Second on our list is a seedy warehouse gig brought to you by the fellas behind the Camp Symmetry festival. Moonbeats Asia, the sister promoter of Symmetry Entertainment, keeps the momentum going from their dubiously shady Club Berlin techno-teasing party, with another shindig in a clandestine industrial venue in Kallang. Intriguing venue aside, the line-up also boasts a mind-tripping ensemble of electronic shapeshifter Ryan Hemsworth, and foxy masked dream-popper Slow Magic. They’ll be joined by the UK-based et aliae, a lass who combines glitchy wonky-pop with smooth r&b textures and hints of classical, alongside local DJs DuriO and team cake.
And as if all this hype wasn’t flummoxing enough, we have yet another gig announcement that will have you yelling “say it ain’t so”! You might know these seminal alt-rockers for clowning around with The Muppets, or dancing with ‘The Fonz’ on Happy Days, or simply because of gen-defining anthems like “Hash Pipe”, “Buddy Holly” and “Beverly Hills”. Yes folks, Weezer is finally coming to our shores for the first time ever! Took ’em over 20 years to get here, but better late than never, yeah?
