And yes, the churros are worth saving space for.<\/p>\n In Canggu, the focus shifts to the traditional Pib earth oven, where succulent meats are slow-cooked underground for more than 12 hours. The birria de res tacos are a standout \u2013 rich, tender beef folded into hand-pressed tortillas made from imported maseca. Pair it with a tres leches cake for dessert and you\u2019ll see why I keep coming back.<\/p>\n Drinks are no afterthought either. It first opened in Seminyak in 2012, so you know a place is doing something right when it’s still teeming today. Then, long before Canggu became a thronging Bali hotspot, this homegrown Mexican began slinging tacos, tequila and good vibes in this cool neighbourhood too.<\/p>\n The menu balances bold Mexican Oaxacan flavours with California’s lighter, fresher approach, so expect small plates to share (ceviche, sliders and corn ribs), plus tacos and quesadillas made with fresh, gluten-free corn tortillas pressed in-house daily. The full-flavoured moles aren’t to be missed either. There’s a fall-apart beef cheek with red mole and tarragon crema, a smoky BBQ chicken with mole amarillo, and the crispy-skin snapper with green pea and almond mole.<\/p>\n Lacalita\u2019s bar deserves its own shout-out too. I love how each location has its own character \u2013 the Umalas taqueria is quaint and cosy, while Uluwatu is a vibrant, double-story space designed like a psychedelic Hacienda ranch house, bursting with colour and energy.<\/p>\n As for the menu, I’m always impressed by the house-made tortillas, fresh salsas, and signature hot sauces. You can fill them with a selection of meat, veggies or Mexican tempeh, and load them with dips and sauces. The kitchen handmakes its own corn tortillas daily (a sure sign you\u2019re in good hands), and the flavours are next-level.<\/p>\n Start with the tuna tostadas (they come perfectly seared with zesty toppings), then move on to the slow-cooked beef birria with melted mozzarella. And for those not so keen on spice, you’ll be pleased to know that the spicy salsas and sauces come on the side, with almost everything available to switch up and change as you need.<\/p>\n Taco Casa<\/strong><\/a> has been flying the Mexican food flag in Bali for years. In fact, I think it’s the first place I ate real Mexican food in Bali. Now with outlets in Ubud, Canggu and Seminyak, it\u2019s still the same winning formula: everything made from scratch, affoprdable prices and a family-friendly vibe.<\/p>\n Expect burritos, enchiladas, nachos and taco salad bowls, all made with your choice of filling and spice level.
