After 14 years of living in Bali, I still tell people the same thing: don’t book your Uluwatu holiday until you know which area you want to stay in. Uluwatu is part of Bali’s clifftop ‘Bukit peninsula’, and it features a string of neighbourhoods with different personalities.<\/p>\n

For example, Bingin at 8am (pilates, flat whites and surfers) will give you a completely different experience to central Ungasan at 8am (local markets and rush hour traffic). Both are technically Uluwatu, but both are worlds apart.<\/p>\n

So, here’s my guide on where to stay in Uluwatu in 2026 \u2013 all the best hotels and resorts, sorted by area. I’ve stayed at every property on this list, and I update it constantly, because Uluwatu is developing fast.<\/p>\n

But first: How long should I spend in Uluwatu?<\/h3>\n

Uluwatu is worth more than a day trip. Most visitors drive down to see Uluwatu Temple and the kecak dance, then drive straight back, which is a shame given how good the food scene down here has become, and how much better the beaches are once you’ve made the effort to reach them.<\/p>\n

I recommend spending at least 3 nights in Uluwatu. This gives you enough time to enjoy Padang Padang Beach, visit the temple, try all of Uluwatu’s best restaurants<\/a>, and maybe even check out some of the cliff clubs, beach clubs, and watch the pumping Uluwatu surf.<\/p>\n

Where to stay in Uluwatu, by area<\/h3>\n

Uluwatu is less a single place and more a collection of neighbourhoods connected by one large loop road. Here’s a quick breakdown to help you choose the right area:<\/p>\n

Bingin<\/strong> \u2014 A tight-knit surf village with local soul, great cafes and restaurants within walking distance. It’s one of the most popular bases in Uluwatu. Just note that in 2025, the famous beachfront warungs<\/em> were lost to the Bingin beach demolition<\/a>. However, Bingin remains one of the best places to stay in Uluwatu, with plenty of nearby beaches and the best dining and accommodation.
