After 14 years of living in Bali, I still tell people the same thing: don’t book your Uluwatu holiday until you know which area you want to stay in. Uluwatu sits on Bali\u2019s clifftop Bukit Peninsula, and it\u2019s a string of neighbourhoods with very different personalities.<\/p>\n
For example, Bingin at 8am (pilates, flat whites and surfers) will give you a completely different experience to central Ungasan at 8am (local markets and rush hour traffic). Both are technically Uluwatu, but both are worlds apart.<\/p>\n
So, here’s my guide on where to stay in Uluwatu in 2026 \u2013 all the best hotels and resorts, sorted by price. I’ve stayed at every property on this list, and I update it constantly, because Uluwatu is developing fast.<\/p>\n
Uluwatu is worth more than a day trip. Most visitors drive down to see Uluwatu Temple and the kecak dance, then drive straight back, which is a shame given how good the food scene down here has become, and how much better the beaches are once you’ve made the effort to reach them.<\/p>\n
I recommend spending at least 3 nights in Uluwatu. This gives you enough time to enjoy Padang Padang Beach, visit the temple, try all of Uluwatu’s best restaurants<\/a>, and maybe even check out some of the cliff clubs, beach clubs, and watch the pumping Uluwatu surf. Here’s a quick breakdown to help you choose the right area:<\/p>\n Bingin<\/strong> \u2013 A tight-knit surf village with local soul, great cafes and restaurants within walking distance. It’s one of the most popular bases in Uluwatu. Just note that in 2025, the famous beachfront warungs<\/em> were lost to the Bingin beach demolition<\/a>. However, Bingin is still one of the best places to stay in Uluwatu, with plenty of beaches nearby. Padang Padang & Labuan Sait<\/strong> \u2013 Uluwatu’s busiest area, lined with great restaurants, cafes and the famous Padang Padang Beach (yes, the one from Eat Pray Love). Ideal if swimming and sunbathing are high on your itinerary. Suluban & Uluwatu Cliffs \u2013<\/strong> This is Uluwatu’s most popular stretch, home to the iconic Uluwatu Temple, some of Bali\u2019s best surf and the famous Single Fin bar. On the main Uluwatu corner, expect buzzing bars, cliff clubs and restaurants. It’s best for dining and lively nightlife. Ungasan & Melasti<\/strong> \u2013 Busy residential neighbourhoods with local warungs<\/em> and everyday Bali life. Venture to its clifftop outskirts though, and you’ll find dramatic ocean views and some of Bali’s most luxury resorts. Balangan<\/strong> \u2013 Uluwatu’s quietest neighbourhood, with a beautiful beach still lined with local warungs<\/em> and Dreamland Beach just minutes away.
