Propped up on Uluwatu beach but not sure where to eat? Here's our guide to the best restaurants and cafes in Uluwatu, Bingin, Padang Padang and beyond...
It’s no secret that the restaurant scene is blowing up all over Bali – none more so than down in Uluwatu on the beautiful Bukit Peninsula, which, until recently, has mostly been all about cheap’n’cheerful local warungs for the surf crowds. These days, Uluwatu’s café culture is booming, and so is the fine dining movement, ranging from healthy vegan eats in Bingin, to award-winning menus from world-class chefs and restaurants in Uluwatu.
So, to help you decide where to eat south of the airport, here’s our list of Uluwatu’s best restaurants, helpfully broken down into the best cafes for brunch and lunch, followed by our fave dinner spots, and last but certainly not least, the finest restaurants in Uluwatu for a special occasion or smokin’ hot date night…
The best restaurants in Uluwatu: EDITOR’S PICKS
1. Mason Uluwatu

From Canggu to Uluwatu, Mason Uluwatu is the second address for this Canggu trailblazer. Standing proud on Uluwatu’s most happening corner, Mason Uluwatu is filled out every night with a hypnotic buzz from the bustling open kitchen. Low lighting, cosy seating and breezy tropical plants set the scene, flocked by Uluwatu’s finest, hungry for a taste of Mason’s longstanding signatures (like the 48-hour slow cooked short ribs) and new Uluwatu-specific additions. We can’t get enough of the pork loin with green harissa, or the chermoula crusted tuna with onion soubise. Wash it all down with superb cocktails, like the Mason Old Fashioned.

2. Yuki

By very popular demand, Yuki has brought its innovative Japanese fusion cuisine from Canggu to Uluwatu. A modern take on a traditional izakaya, Yuki focuses on simple yet progressive dishes that honour traditional Japanese cooking techniques and Bali’s bountiful ingredients. Try the nori ahi tacos made with watermelon and ponzu, or the tuna truffle maki roll, the Wagyu sando and the wood-fired yakitori. Yuki’s Japanese-inspired signature cocktails are just as impressive – we love the Off To Tokyo with a hint of wasabi and furikake, or the tangy Yukies 2.0, made with gin, kalamansi, goji berry and yuzu.

3. Tacos Aqui

From Umalas to Uluwatu, Tacos Aqui is Bali’s muy caliente Mexican restaurant and taqueria. You can’t miss this new Uluwatu location: a double-story, neon pink kaleidoscope of chaotic architecture, reminiscent of a psychedelic Hacienda ranch house. And the menu is just as impressive. The tortillas, salsa and hot sauces are all made in-house, and everything on the menu uses fresh, locally sourced ingredients. You’ll want to bring your amigos and start with some spicy ceviche, a round of tacos and a few signature margies (our fave is the La Alma!), then fill up on the Achiote chicken in an orange tequila sauce, or the slow-cooked Birria short rib. With live music, laid-back vibes, plus Taco Tuesdays and Thursdays, there’s no excuse but to try ’em all…

Built around a magnificent tree, the breezy tropical garden shifts with the rise and fall of the sun, from a relaxing brunch space by day, to a lively evening spot with live music by night. As for the menu, expect perfectly balanced dishes that blend Balinese ingredients and spices with Western influences. Our fave is the coconut tuna bowl with sambal matah, and the chicken betutu served with all the traditional trimmings. Top tip: keep your eyes on the Ulu Garden calendar, because you can catch Balinese dance performances, culture talks, art expositions and workshops, as well as intimate concerts, artist stories and an Indonesian-inspired festival.

The food is simple, healthy and hearty, with a refreshing drinks list and some of the coldest beers around. As for the food, it’s bringing Bali’s beachside seafood barbecues to a restaurant setting, where you can order up the catch-of-the day with a selection of sides and your choice of seasoning. It’s a little bit Balinese and a little bit Hawaiian, with a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian touches. Think blackened tuna sashimi, cajun-spiced mahi-mahi, scallops topped with salted egg and bountiful poke bowls. We love!
