Ubud Writers and Readers Festival 2013
2013 marks the tenth anniversary of the incredible Ubud Writers Festival and what a celebration it’s going to be. Expect over 170 writers, performers, artists, and musicians coming from Indonesia and around the globe to participate in this year’s event, themed Through Darkness to Light.
The festival has pulled some big international names including Lionel Shriver, author of the worldwide hit We Need to Talk About Kevin, which has sold over one million copies; UK writer Sebastian Faulks, whose best-selling novels include The Girl at the Lion D’or, Engelby, Birdsong, and Charlotte Gray, and for the younger ones, iconic Australian author Morris Gleitzman.
There are plenty of fabulous happenings including an Ubud bike and literary tour, a cooking workshop at the famed Mozaic restaurant and a long table lunch with your favourite authors. That’s just for starters. Factor in a film programme, children’s programme, youth programme, cultural workshops, fringe events, and plenty of free events, and you see why this festival is so highly regarded around the world.
So keep your diary free and head to the hills from 11-15 October 2013. Word Up!
