Since setting up shop in Canggu, Deus Ex Machina has gained a reputation for being a purveyor of cool and added a healthy dose of rad art and culture with its gallery space and artist residencies at The Temple of Enthusiasm. And its latest exhibition is no exception.
Until 28 Nov, Deus is home to Spiritual Materialism by London-based Joe Lauder of Satta Skates. Taking inspiration from his travels and his fascination with the “in-between spaces”, Joe has created an exhibition with several different media and materials. Between the silkscreen prints, skateboard decks and wood prints, Joe demonstrates that a true artist doesn’t just work in one medium. Each wood work is made from reclaimed teak (Lauder and a local wood expert sourced the wood from former homes and boats from around the island) and has been transformed into an impressive piece of art yet proudly displays its roots.
The exhibition is not huge but it’s worth the visit, even Coolhunting thought so. Although many of the pieces have already sold, there are still a few available for sale at an incredible steal of a rate.
