Hella tasty tacos and burritos that burst with Mexican pizazz
OK hands up who likes Mexican? And who digs veggie food? Well, we’ve got just the place for you. Tucked just off the Campuan Road La Pacha Mama is Ubud’s first [and only] plant-based cocina Mexicana – serving up utterly delish dishes cooked with love. Think tofu chorizo tacos and jackfruit burritos with muy picante salsas and the odd Balinese touch added into the mix for a local spin.
But first, however; cocktails. Oh yes, Pacha Mama looooves a decent drink or two, so we fully recommend chilling in their colourful downstairs bar area and knocking back a couple of La Margaritas – done classic style with lemon juice and a good glug of premium tequila. The Dance on the Table [tequila añejo, Cointreau, Johnnie Walker Black Label and blue curacao] is also our hot tip and may very well make you do exactly what its name suggests…

Upstairs on the open-sided dining deck, the décor is just a quirky as the bar, with plenty of cool colours and angles for the ‘Grammers. The food looks almost too good to eat too, so snap away then get stuck in. Our fave starter has to be the tarazca soup, followed by the quesadilla la grande – an XXL flour tortilla with melted cheese and crunchy vegetables, cooked in their lip smackin’ salsa madre. NOM. If you’re not really a Margarita person then the Clementina is a great shout – all mixed up with vodka and Merlot for a Spanish sangria with bite.
Whether you’re full veggo or not, it doesn’t really matter here, as the dishes are so well done even meat eaters will love the fresh flavours and super authentic Mexican taste. And if you really can’t live without a little taste of something sans the green V , then you’ll be pleased to hear that La Pacha Mama shares the same address as La Cevicheria, a cute and quirky little joint that’s all about fresh ceviche done the Latin American way. Arriba!
