There’s been a new wave of rising coffee culture in Jakarta over the past few years – not that we’re complaining. Everywhere you look there’s a new specialty coffee shops popping up. Because there are just so many fantastic spots to go across Jakarta, we’re dividing them up by neighbourhood this time. Here we’ve rounded up the top cafes in Kemang, Jakarta’s family-friendly town in the south.

1. Komunal88
Komunal88 is a cafe-market serving excellent Caswell’s coffee, alongside freshly baked goods prepared in-house every day. We’re quite particular to their fantastic madeleines and almond croissant. This popular brunch spot also tries to be eco-friendly when it comes to takeaway coffee, providing customers with their signature reusable to-go tumbler instead of the usual cardboard cups. Take the tumbler back on your next visit for a discounted refill!

2. Goni Coffee
Located in the quaint East Kemang, Goni Coffee gives you the perfect spot to escape the crowds. The owners, having spent time in Sydney perfecting their craft, are huge advocates for the Indonesian specialty coffee industry. There’s no surprise then that Goni’s delicious brews are all made of locally sourced beans from Indonesia’s best roasters.

3. Eighty Nine Eatery, Coffee & Spirits
Eighty Nine Eatery, Coffee & Spirits, AKA Kedai Kopi 89, is an Insta-foodie’s dream. Colorful, funky and eclectic, you could spend hours just admiring the atmosphere. The cafe specializes in single origin Indonesian brews – served black and piping hot. There are espresso-based drinks for those who prefer it, but we recommend ordering a traditional black with a side of kaya toast.

4. Anomali Coffee
Tried and tested country-wide, Anomali Coffee gives you a taste of Indonesia-grown beans brewed by the expert baristas. The beans are sourced straight from Papua, Java, Sumatra and Bali, making it a perfect pitstop that suits all tastes. Not only that, the espresso machines are top notch, too, pumping out strong and creamy cappuccinos on the regular, as well as a cold drip, French press, plunger, and the very snazzy syphon coffee. And psst… There’s even regular training sessions on-hand to get your coffee brewing and sipping up to scratch.
