With the Bali sun beckoning, Borobudur temple on the bucket list and a lunch invitation from Indonesian President Jokowi in his back pocket, Barack Obama is coming to Indonesia this weekend!
Roll out the red carpet, put on your Sunday’s best and get your selfie sticks at the ready, because Former US President Barack Obama is visiting Bali, Jakarta and Yogyakarta this weekend – just in time for the Lebaran holidays and the 4th Indonesian Diaspora Congress.
In case you didn’t know, Obama grew up in Jakarta after his mother married Indonesian citizen, Lolo Soetoro. And though Obama later moved back to his homeland of Hawaii, the former President regularly visits the archipelago – and often craves his go-to comfort foods, Nasi Goreng and Bakso Soup. We feel ya, Obama!
Though his exact itinerary is being tightly held under lock and key, Obama is said to land in Bali on the 23rd June ahead of the Lebaran weekend. He will then visit Yogyakarta’s impressive Borobudur temple, before stopping in Jakarta for a luncheon with Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at Bogor Palace, and will later open the 4th Indonesian Diaspora Congress on July 1st.
Excited? We are too, because we love Barack and can’t wait to hear another nostalgic speech of his where he whips out some Bahasa lingo in honour of his Indonesian roots. Check out this one below, and “Selamat datang di Indonesia, Pak Barack!”
