In this month’s edition of Hot New Tables: COMO Beach Club, Sake no Hana, Finns Sushi Bar, Peekaboo & more!
They say that life is all about balance, right? Well, we couldn’t agree more, especially when it comes to our Champagne-sipping, gourmet feasting routines. A few sunset cocktails here or a long and lazy brunch there can’t hurt when we’re hitting the gym or stretching it out on the yoga mat every other day…
Well, it seems that Bali’s best new restaurants are living by this same life mantra, because this month we’re blessed with fresh-from-the-net sushi and Ayurvedic bites alongside some seriously carb-loaded goodies. From mean and meaty Kiwi pies, to just-picked local veggies, Bali’s hot new tables are balancing out cheat-day treats with healthy eats so you can save those post pig-out blues for another day. Dig in, Honeys!
Sake no Hana
How does sipping on sake and tucking into gourmet sushi sound, all the while overlooking Uluwatu’s sun-soaked cliffside? Yep we thought so – HEAVEN! Well, that’s what you’re treated to at Sake no Hana – the brand new, internationally-acclaimed modern Japanese destination at OMNIA Dayclub. This London-born brand is anchored around the word “shun”, which basically refers to any moment of utter perfection. Sake no Hana is exactly that, framed by nature and open to the elements with its al-fresco, latticed space that merges seamlessly with the buzz of the dayclub below. Be sure to make a reservation here – this five-star experience is the hottest new name in Asia’s dining scene.
Sake no Hana at OMNIA Dayclub, Jl Belimbing Sari, Banjar Tambiyak Desa, Uluwatu, p. +62 361 8482 150, e. [email protected]. Open daily 12pm – 11pm.
COMO Beach Club
Finally! It’s what all A-listers and eco-conscious luxury lovers have been waiting for: the opening of COMO Uma Canggu! And with this hot new five-star resort comes a fabulous new destination for wining, dining and sunshine soaking – COMO Beach Club of course! Now, the doors to this hedonistic haven are still creaking open, but we’ve been told to expect the freshest, regionally sourced ingredients creatively used in spectacular dishes – exactly what COMO is known for. Oh, and word on the street is, this’ll is where you’ll find Bali’s best Eggs Benedict, too!

Peekaboo
Peekaboo – we see you! In fact, how could we not, with those street-style vibes and concrete walls decked out in bright, Banksy-esque graffiti? But don’t get this new Canggu haunt wrong – despite the grungy attitude, this place is all about boutique cocktails and really great bites, wrapped up in raw interiors reminiscent of downtown Paris. The food here is the work of Dale Kettle – private chef to royalty, sport superstars and celebrities – whilst the cocktails might just be from God himself (or someone equally as adept in the art of perfection). Try Chef Dale’s 12 hour pork belly or tempura prawn tacos (all made for sharing) and wash them down with the Sour Lemongrass cocktail, made with Vodka, orange liqueur, amaretto, lemongrass, egg white & star fruit. You can find this cool new hangout on Batu Bolong – just look out for the live art demos and old-school hip hop nights.
Peekaboo, Jl Pantai Batu Bolong No. 70, Canggu, p. +62 823 3905 9773, e. [email protected]. Open daily 10am – midnight.
Finns Sushi Bar
Splash out the sake and don’t forget your chopsticks, because Finns Beach Club has just opened a brand new Sushi Bar! That’s right fish fanatics, everyone’s fave Berawa beach club is bringing Japanese flavours to the Canggu coastline, and with over 15 years of experience in the Japanese cuisine field, these guys are no strangers to sashimi, sushi or tempura. And it shows! The menu is comprehensive without being overwhelming, from light and fresh favourites for sharing (hello edamame, gyoza and yakitori) to signature rolls that are almost (almost!) too pretty to eat. Try the Dragon Roll with real, fresh wasabi, and whatever you do, don’t miss the Uzusukuri – Carpaccio style white fish sliced impossibly thin with a delicately infused, truffle ponzu sauce. YUM.
Finns Beach Club, Jl Pantai Berawa, Canggu, p +62 361 844 6327 / +62 361 934 734, e. [email protected]. Open daily.
Warung Venezuela
A teenie weenie, itsy bitsy, yellow eatery in Berawa, Warung Venezuela has managed to do what many others haven’t: brought a brand new concept to Bali. We can’t even begin to count how many Italian, Mexican, Japanese and a-bit-of-everything restaurants scatter the island, but we’re pretty damn sure there’s only one Venezuelan. The menu here is all about “Arepas” – snack-sized flat breads generously stuffed with all the good stuff. We’re talking gooey cheddar cheese, smoked pork, perfectly pulled beef, guac and plenty of South American flava. And did we mention, it’s all gluten free, too? Just make sure you schedule time for a post-Arepas siesta…. You’re gunna need it.
Warung Venezuela, Jl Pantai Berawa No. 41, Canngu, p. +62 878 6037 0692, e. [email protected]. Open daily midday – 11pm.
I Make The Pies
Pies glorious pies! For anyone lucky enough to have tried a real New Zealand pie, this new Canggu scoff house is a very exciting new addtion indeed. You see, a true Kiwi pie isn’t like other pies. They’re shatteringly crisp and flaky on the outside, warm, gooey and intensely rich on the inside, whist a satisfyingly thick layer of hot golden pastry keeps it altogether. Add to that the love that’s put into them from Kiwi bakers (just like Granny used to), and well, they just don’t make ‘em like these anywhere else in the world (sorry Aussies). Well now, all of this scrumptiousness has arrived in the ‘Gu. Go for the good ol’ Steak & Mushroom Pie with a side of mash and gravy, or go green and get the Vegan Pie with veggies and a light coconut curry. Our fave? The Chicken & Leek. Trust us, these pies are the real McCoy, and they do frozen home deliveries, too!
I Make The Pies, Jl Tanah Barak No.8, Canggu, p. +62 8138 181 8025. Open daily 8am – 9pm.
Mounge at Mudra
Any serious yogi, vegan or health nut will already be well acquainted with Mudra – a little Ubud gem that serves farm-fresh Ayurvedic food in a cosy, community-style cafe. Well, this teeny little grazing spot has just added extra seats to its 15-person capacity with the introduction of Mounge – the Mudra lounge! We are already loving sipping on their awesome coffees and organic ice cream in this even-more-laidback zone. If the food didn’t get you through the doors before, this brand new nook with Ubud-chill vibes surely will.
Mudra, Jl Goutama Sel. No.22, Ubud, p. +62 857 3895 0883, e. [email protected]. Open Tues – Sun 8.30am – 9.30pm.
