In this month’s edition of Hot New Tables: Neon Palms, OMNIA Dayclub, The Avocado Factory, Kembali, EXPAT. Roasters & more!
Last year may well have been Bali’s best yet when it comes to the island’s ever-evolving wining, dining and beach clubbing scene, but 2018 is ready to blow that rep outta the water with the latest cafe concepts and addictive dining destinations opening up in every island ‘hood.
This month alone, we have a brand new brunch and lunch spot that’s wholly dedicated to the humble avocado (get your Instagram feeds at the ready) as well as a glamorous new party destination on the cliff tops of Uluwatu. There’s also a handful of new all-day munching spots, as well as a spanking new location for our fave brew bar. Get your foodie crew ready, these are February’s Hot New Tables for your feasting pleasure.
Neon Palms
We never need much of an excuse to direct our sandy toes toward Bali Boat Shed – Seminyak’s grooviest fashion boutique – but ever since Neon Palms opened upstairs (right on top of those ramshackle-cool beach sheds) we’re having trouble keeping ourselves away. Neon Palms is a jungle-like munching spot that’s open from dawn until dusk serving up brekkie, brunch and dinner dishes, as well as funky cocktails (this is Seminyak, after all). And in keeping with the technicoloured vibes of Bali Boat Shed, Neon Palms is bright, beautiful, and chock full of healthy, delicious bites that just scream tropical cool.

OMNIA Dayclub
If the thought of soaking up the sunshine, sipping on sake and tucking into gourmet sushi overlooking Uluwatu’s awesome cliffside sounds too good to be true, then get ready to raise your glass to the famous Hakkasan Group, because they’ve just made all of our dreams a reality with the opening of OMNIA Dayclub – an ultra-hot new spot to see and be seen. Think majestic and uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean, stylish designs by Singapore’s WOHA and NYC’s Rockwell, culinary magic from Sake no Hana, swanky VIP areas for sunning and sipping, and a soon-to-drop roster of international superstars for your listening pleasure – all the while teetering atop a 100 metre plateau. Now, where’s that Champagne…
OMNIA Dayclub, Jl Belimbing Sari, Banjar Tambiyak Desa, Uluwatu, p. +62 361 8482 150, e. [email protected]. Open daily 11am – 7pm.
The Avocado Factory
If it was up to us, we’d eat avocado all day, every day, smothered on everything. Avocado on toast, avocado in our burgers, avocado in our smoothie bowls and heck, why not add chunks of avocado to our dipping sauces, too? Well, The Avocado Factory has gone and done exactly that. They’re as mad about nature’s green gift as we are, giving our go-to the recognition it deserves whilst overlooking the rice fields of the ‘Gu. Try the Avocado Tacos and the Avo King Burger (with a deep fried Avocado as the pattie – HELLO!) and finish it all off with an avo-licious dessert. It’s all avo everything, ripe for the picking.
The Avocado Factory, Jl Batu Mejan, Canggu, p. +62 821 4411 1148, e. [email protected]. Open daily 7am – 11.30pm.
Kembali Bumbak
Have you noticed a sudden quietness amongst the cafes of Canggu of late? Yep, us too. So we went off to find out where all the cool kids were taking their morning rituals, and that’s how we found Kembali – the newest cafe to open up in a quiet corner of Umalas. Well, quiet no more, because Kembali has officially put this verdant neighbourhood on the map, luring the ‘Gu crew from across the rice fields for chocolatey freak shakes, charcoal bun burgers, custard-covered waffles and the fluffiest homemade scones around, loaded with peanut butter, vanilla-strawberry jam and whipped coconut cream. Just follow the flock of surf babes, gym junkies and good-food fans, and they’ll no doubt lead you right to the Kembali doorstep.
Kembali Bumbak, Jl Bumbak Dauh, Umalas, p. +62 812 3756 7156. Open daily 7.30am – 4.30pm.
EXPAT. Roasters
For all you coffee-holics, EXPAT. Roasters is one of the newest – and coolest – brew bars on the Seminyak scene (brought to us by International award-winning Barista, Shae Macnamara) and just last month, this experimental, bean-focussed bar got itself some fancy new digs high up on the Petitenget strip. Bigger and better than ever before, EXPAT. Roasters takes its caffeine sipping clientele on an exploratory ‘from-the-ground-up’ journey, to understand the complex flavours of the Expat blend – one cup at a time. This urban and funky little spot is making waves on the island as the place for a proper coffee, so make sure you swing by for a sip (and a nibble of their freshly baked banana bread).
Expat. Roasters, Jl Petitenget No 1A, Seminyak, p. +62 361 738454, e. [email protected]. Open daily 7am – 5pm
Mr Husky
Being in Asia, you’d think Bali would be overrun with South-East Asian restaurants serving the region’s signatures. But actually, with the rush of healthy eating cafes and quirky concepts from overseas, when a traditional Asian eatery opens its doors on the island, it’s cause for a celebration. Well, make that a full-on foodie blowout for the opening of Mr Husky, because this new Seminyak nook is packed to the spicy brim with soups, fragrant curries and Singaporean soft shell chilli crab to give you a real taste of the region. Try the Duck Summer Rolls and Squid Salted Egg to start, and feast on Mackerel Rica-Rica and Singapore Crispy Pork Belly for the main event. And did we mention the cocktails? Oh, those cocktails… You’ll want to settle in for the evening, because there’s a lot to sip through.
