Escape the bustling areas of Bali and head East to experience a different side to the island. Stay at the stunning Alila Manggis and soak up the beautiful surroundings with their experiences and stunning resort facilities.
Set amongst a coconut grove with the majestic Mount Agung perched right behind, there is a must-visit sanctuary resort for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the South and are in search of the “real” Bali. It is here you get to see and learn the authentic love of the land, admire the picturesque landscape of rice paddies and volcanoes against the Indian Ocean, and experience the unspoilt simplicity of island life. Welcome to Alila Manggis: the first established of the now five Alila properties in Bali, where famous Balinese hospitality comes to life.

From the very first moment you step into the resort, you are warmly greeted by the Balinese staff with their forever smiling faces and the stories they share that make this place simply magical. Whether you’re booked in for a day, a night, or even a week, you’ll never want to leave.
If it is just the day trip you have planned, this is how it should roll out: first, book in for a “Day of Indulgence” at the Alila Spa. On arrival, you will be escorted straight to the ocean front spa where you will get pampered with a blissful 90-minute Balinese or Therapeutic Massage. Your treatment takes place in an open air Bale, where the sounds of the waves instantly set the scene for some deep relaxation. Seasalt Restaurant then accommodates you for lunch – three courses of healthy goodness with an ocean outlook! Enjoy the remainder of the day by getting horizontal poolside where you’ll be mesmerized by the palmed blue skies above. If you’re still hungry for some nibbles, afternoon tea will be served, sweet treats delivered straight to your lounger between multiple swims and sweet dream siestas. An incredible day, amazingly had.

Planning an even longer stay? Upon arrival, you will be led to your ocean facing room or suite, conveniently designed around the stunning central pool with the famed palm tree reflections that will never leave the memory bank. While you’re there, make the most of your trip by taking advantage of Alila’s one-of-a-kind activities like their “Chasing the Sunrise” cruise.
After all, East Bali is renowned for its beautiful sunrise captures – this is one sunrise you don’t want to lie in bed for, believe us! Book a spot aboard the Alila Jukung, the resort’s private traditional wooden boat, that sets sail at 5am heading East towards the Gili Islands. The sunrise cruise heads out in the dark with only the stars to guide you above, while glowing plankton lights up the way beneath the boat. The first light of day approaches once you pass Candidasa. Get your Insta thumb ready: Bali’s most sacred mountain, Mount Agung, appears moments before the motor stops and the peaceful darkness of the deep blue horizon slowly transforms into a bright red sun rising in front of you. We recommend diving off the Jukung for a refreshing swim and returning for a light breakfast aboard before returning to the Manggis shores.

The Alila Experiences doesn’t stop here, as Hathmawan and Budi from the leisure concierge team can organize anything you fancy, whether you’re interested in a Balinese cooking class, diving or snorkeling excursions, walking tours, scenic bike rides, temple visits, volcano treks, or even a session with a Balinese healer – all your Bali Bucket List items ticked off in one location!
The Manggis dream is for you to go back home with emotional and spiritual memories from these East Bali experiences – and we did just that. Alongside a well rested mind and body, we’ve now found a fave new island getaway in the peaceful surroundings of East Bali.
