Last month, our very own Honeycombers Founder hit the island for a weekend of pampering, and she stopped in at Bronz Spa on Batu Belig for the crème de la crème of anti-ageing facials.
I’ve been visiting Bali for over ten years [who can resist those white sand beaches and cocktail sunsets?] and whilst I’ve enjoyed blissing out and sampling dozens of super affordable spa treatments, I’ve never considered getting a ‘serious’ anti-ageing facial while visiting the island of the Gods. Strange, but true.
After a girlfriend talked me into a visit to Bronz Spa on Batu Belig [a few minutes from Seminyak and Canggu in either direction] for a serious anti-ageing treatment, I have promised myself to return to Bronz on every visit. Let me explain.
Bronz, owned by Australian Beautician Leigh Turtle, first opened in Manly, Sydney in 2002, which kind of gave me a sense of comfort that these guys know what they’re doing. They started as specialists in spray tanning, and now offer the full range of beauty treatments: manis, pedis, facials, massages – and more recently, specialist anti-ageing facials (hallelujah!).
I tried the crème de la crème of their facials, the Microdermabrasion with Lactobotanical Peel (Rp750,000) because I am now an absolute believer that any kind of non-invasive beauty treatment involving machinery is the go. Perhaps I’ve just had too many light and fluffy facials in my life that feel good but have zero impact on my dry and tired skin. Don’t get me wrong, a nice relaxing experience is always a winner, but I am now at the age when my facials actually need to do some heavy lifting [pun intended].
The facial was quite fast – and very well explained by the staff. First was a cleanse, before the Microdermabrasion machine was put to work. This machine is a serious exfoliator, blowing a stream of high-pressure crystals toward the skin, buffing and polishing as it goes. The lactobotanical peel is then applied, which did sting a little, but this is effective at hydrating and kick starting the collagen and elastin to plump up the skin, so of course, it’s totally worth it. And while both treatments are extremely anti-ageing, they do recommend a course of treatments to get the full benefits.
For Dermalogica lovers, the Age Smart facial is also a rejuvenating dream, or if it’s a serious cleanse you’re after, Bronz also offers slightly deeper peels that target acne, pigment and ageing, as well as skin needling [their strongest anti-ageing treatment] that combats acne scarring, dermal pigment/malasma and helps to plump and firm. It doesn’t get much better than that, right?
I have to say, I don’t think I’ve had a treatment that made my skin so bright, shiny and plump in quite some time. Sadly, there is no Bronz back home in Singapore, otherwise I would have totally signed up to a 6-month course treatment. Instead, I have returned to Singapore to try and hunt out my next Microdermabrasion treatment. Consider me converted.
This awesome review was written by Honeycombers’ very own lady boss, Chris Edwards. If she says it’s good, you better believe it!
