Beauty apps to download
Now that we’re older (and wiser), we’d take the aisles of Sephora over a theme park any day – if only we had the time. Lucky we are surgically attached to our smartphones and can surf the infinite digital space to meet our infinite beauty needs anytime, anyplace. Here are the best beauty apps, like ever.
Helpful How-Tos: Beautylish
Packed with step-by-step video tutorials and informative editorial tips, this is an awesome on-the-go app for beauty junkies – just make sure that’s wifi before you get sucked into the wonderful world of Beautylish. The honest product reviews (for before you try a new product) and online forums (with a community of beauty experts) are also really helpful. The downside? The e-store only delivers within the United States.
Download Beautylish from iTunes or Google Play.
Be Skin Savvy: My Own
This is a fantastic app – if you can take its no bull-sh*t policy. Own (a San Francisco based skin-health company) launched this app to create clinically proven anti ageing treatments. It analyzes and tracks the aging of your skin, and recommends appropriate skin care for what’s really happening to your visage. It might be depressing, but consider it motivation!
Download My Own from iTunes.
Divine Digits: Nail Salon Designs
French tips? Check. Water marbling? Check. Intricate Aztec patterns? Check. It’s official – this highly rated app has something for even the fussiest nail art junkie. We like that the thousands of ideas are neatly sorted in simple, easy to use categories like ‘Gradient’, ‘Holiday’, ‘Animal Print’, and even ‘Wedding’. Plus, it’s updated daily, so you’ll never get bored!
Download Nail Salon Designs from iTunes or Google Play.
PRIMP and Modiface Virtual Makeover
Endless Inspiration: PRIMP
This app is probably the best thing that will happen to you, in the universe of makeup-shopping – it helps you to choose products, and eventually ‘learns’ to recommend from your preferences. Plus, you can connect with a select group of bloggers and make-up artists (known as Power Primpers) for first dibs on makeup trends and expert picks.
Download PRIMP from iTunes.
Makeover Master: Modiface Virtual Makeover
You wouldn’t want to know how much time we spent on this app (all in the name of research, baby), and it’s enough to say that it’s the most realistic and fun of all the makeover apps in the app-world. Simply take a selfie and go crazy with the beauty products (actually available in real life) and celebrity hairstyles. The basic app is great, but upgrade and get access to a whole lot more.
Download Modiface Virtual Makeover from iTunes and Google Play.
Eco-Friendly FYIs: Good Guide
This is great to have if you’re concerned about what (ingredients) goes into your beauty products and how it affects you and the rest of the world (its eco-friendliness). Scan the barcodes or do a search to see how the product measures up in its category. The only downer is that it works perfectly well on big brands but it might not recognize some of the lesser-known labels we have in Singapore.
Download Good Guide from iTunes or Google Play.
Up the Mane Game: Hairstyle Wizard
If you’ve been admiring the latest do of one celebrity or another, it might be prudent to download this app and try it (like the dramatically different pixie cut) with any photo of yourself before giving your hairstylist the green light. Share photos and get opinions from friends (or not) before going under the scissors (it is a pretty large commitment!).
Download Hairstyle Wizard from iTunes.
