Review: Villa Sungai Tinggi
If traditional Balinese style is what you seek in a luxury holiday villa, Villa Sungai Tinggi will be just right for you. Open spaces, a cool outdoor pavilion and large lawn rolling on to secluded beach frontage, this homely haven won us over the minute we stepped inside.
Designed and constructed by an Australian family who loved Bali so much, they’re now long-term residents, this 4-bedroom villa (aptly named ‘high river’) sits on the banks of a small lagoon where the river meets the sea. Located in the quiet neighbourhood of Pererenan, the property has more than 100 metres of secluded beach frontage, overlooking South‐ Western Bali’s rugged black‐sand beaches.
What we loved most about Villa Sungai Tinggi is that it’s old school. The Aussie owners’ passion for the island and its traditions is evident through the interior and exterior furnishings – the living pavilion is designed as a Balinese wantilan (meeting hall) – and the collection of artworks and fabrics scattered around the house. There’s also an 18-meter pool on the property overlooking the ocean, where we spent many of our daylight hours.
All four bedrooms come with huge ensuite bathrooms with either open-air stone showers and/or sunken bathtubs. The 15-member staff (another generous helping!) will also take care of your every whim and fancy. Have kids in tow? No worries, the master bedroom has a study off to the side, so mum and dad can have their own space even when the littlies are kept close by!
If you’d like to experience traditional Balinese luxury with family and friends, this villa is absolutely perfect.
