The latest project from VLV Singapore, this new alfresco Chinese restaurant by the Singapore River serves dishes like chilli crab, curry fish head, shrimp paste chicken and more
If you don’t like roughing it out in sweaty coffeeshops or the thought of ordering in Chinese terrifies you, you’ve probably yet to try the Chinese cuisine known as zi char – think home-cooked sharing plates for families or groups. But what if I told you there was a slicker, stylish destination where you can tuck into zi char fare, sans the grubby setting and angry auntie who shouts at everyone?
We’ve said much about VLV Singapore, a multi-concept Chinese restaurant in Clarke Quay that also hosts regular live music gigs. But recently unveiled is VLV Riverside, an 80-seat, alfresco restaurant that aims to elevate the zi char dining experience.
Helmed by Executive Chef Martin Foo, the menu here is reminiscent of what you’d expect from a zi char restaurant. Aside from Singapore food staple, chilli crab, you can also find VLV’s Chairman’s Crab, with a sauce that you’ll want to soak your man tous (deep-fried buns) in. Other group-friendly highlights include the crispy bull frog with ginger, stir-fried sambal prawn with petai, crispy har cheong gai (shrimp paste chicken), and the curry fish head that goes perfectly with rice.
Make this your go-to nightlife spot, and you’ll be a zi char pro in no time.
