Whip up the perfect cappuccino, latte, or macchiato at home thanks to Nespresso and our handy hints for making a top cup of Java
We’ve told you where to find the best coffee roasters in Singapore, we regularly keep you up to date on where you can find the hottest new cafes serving up steaming cups of Joe, and we’ve even given you the low-down on how to order your local kopi (you’re welcome!). But sometimes, we don’t want to pound the streets looking for that next cappuccino, mocha, or latte hit. We want to be able to make a top notch java in the comfort of our own homes. And thanks to Nespresso and its whizzy machines, we can do just that. We recently caught up with the coffee pros at the launch of Nespresso’s latest store at Raffles City and picked up a few tips on how to make the best possible cup of coffee at home.
1. Learn your strengths
Do you prefer your brew to to pack an espresso sized punch? Or perhaps you’re more of a milky, frothy fan. Whatever the favoured form of your daily pick-me-up, you’ll be able to replicate it at home thanks to the variety of coffee taste profiles available at Nespresso. From punchy espressos, to smooth, long blacks; once you’ve found your favourites you’ll be able to enjoy the perfect cuppa joe at the mere press of a button.
2. Get a milk frother!
So you’ve brewed yourself a fancy coffee only to pour ice cold milk into it. Blasphemy! Be sure to invest in a milk frother for your home to ensure you get a tip-top crema finish. We also recommend mixing up your milk combos; try half regular milk and half coconut milk for a luxurious twist.
3. Don’t burn your beans
Nothing worse than the taste of burnt coffee. By using a Nespresso machine you’ll get the best possible flavour extraction, pressure, and water speed, minus the nasty bitter flavour ruining the highlight of your morning.
4. Get creative
Yes, we love the classics but every now and again we like to throw a curveball into the mix. And thankfully there are loads of recipes on Nespresso’s website that sound divine. Iced caramel or chocolate coffee? Chai latte? White mocha? With easy step by step instructions your guests will think you’ve hired in a pro barista next time you serve up one of these creations at the end of your dinner-party.
5. The final flourish
Though fancy latte art is not easy to master (we tried, and failed), you can still make coffee at home look and feel extra special with a dusting of cocoa, cinnamon, or nutmeg. Sprinkle it over your brew to add an extra flavour dimension. What’s more, to coincide with the launch of the new boutique at Raffles City, Nespresso has reduced the price of its 24 Grand Cru coffees (huzzah!).
