Clubbing fans rejoice! The full-blown version of Ultra Music Festival is finally coming to Singapore for a two-day, three-stage event
Further fortifying the notion that Singapore is becoming a blooming mecca for commercial EDM, it’s recently been announced that we’re getting the full-blown edition of Ultra Music Festival on our shores! Although the line-up and venue has yet to be revealed, we can tell you that this Miami-originating extravaganza – one of the biggest EDM festivals in the world – will be happening on 10 and 11 September later this year.
Hold on to your horses, Ultranauts, more top-tier electronic acts have just been revealed for the line-up. Warning: if you’re a hardcore EDM fan, take a deep breath, now. Dutch house titan, Afrojack, and dubstep dynamos, Nero, are headed our way. Fanatics of Swedish House Mafia will be chuffed to hear the return of melodic prog-house duo, Axwell & Ingrosso. Another much-hyped return is France’s DJ Snake and his aggressive, deranged take on trap music. And if tropical house fever is still hot on your heels, then you’ll be over the moon for the long-awaited debut set of the man who pretty much kicked off the trend, Kygo. Far East Movement also makes an appearance with their pass-the-mic hip-hop routines, and the prolific, mouse helmet-wearing deadmau5, who was announced earlier in January.
UPDATE: Phase Two has been revealed, and these include trance phenoms Above & Beyond, the melodious Alesso, Nicole Moudaber for the underground house purists, Carnage for the trap troopers, and even the enigmatic ZHU who’s been tearing up soundsystems in a swift span of time.
Wait? Didn’t Ultra already happen last year at Marina Bay Sands, you ask? Well, not exactly; what local ravers got in 2015 was Road To Ultra, essentially a mini-sized version of Ultra Music Festival that its promoters organise around the world in various global cities. And having tested the waters in Singapore, and taking cue from the thousands of fist-pumpers who showed up for Alesso, Skrillex and Nicky Romero, the Ultra folks are now confident enough to pull out the big guns here. This will make Singapore the third confirmed country in Asia – following Japan and Korea – to host the main festival. Pretty big deal, if you ask us!
Unlike last year, Ultra Music Festival will now be an outdoor affair, and will span across three stages – the Main Stage, Live Stage and Resistance Stage. Knowing the credibility and past alumni of Ultra all around the world, this will likely mean that we won’t just get commercial big-room anthems, but also an abundance of underground and local DJs to beef up the diversity. And once they start letting slip of the performing acts, we’ll be the first to let y’all know.
Ultra Music Festival 2016, 10-11 September, venue TBC. Tier 1 Early Bird tickets go on sale 19 January, 11am.
