It’s rare that an event like this is visible from Singapore so make sure you get up on time to watch it!
While Singapore might be the last place you’d think of when it comes to stargazing – it is a glowing metropolis of rooftop bars and rooftop restaurants, after all – you can still spot astronomical wonders if you’re lucky. This August, a partial lunar eclipse will be visible from Singapore, according to the Singapore Science Centre – so set your alarms.
In case you’re scratching your head, eclipses happen when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align, and the lunar eclipse is when the full moon moves directly behind the Earth is engulfed in the Earth’s shadow. This eclipse will be happening between 1am and 3am in the morning, so be up early! While any open spaces would be good enough to see the eclipse, we’re thinking getting on higher ground would be ideal – or you can check out some of these picturesque spots like Marina Barrage, Yishun Dam and more to catch the phenomenon.
There’s also a total solar eclipse happening on 21 August and the Perseids meteor shower on 12 and 13 August, but both events would not be visible (sadly) from Singapore.
Another thing to check out after hours is the glow-in-the-dark Rail Corridor at Bukit Panjang and late supper, of course.
