One of the best alfresco parties in Singapore is back: new venue along Sophia Road, same ol' dose of family-friendly entertainment and dance music
It’s a sometimes sweaty, rainy, mellow or stormy affair – but no matter what sort of temperament Mother Nature decides to display whenever this party gets underway once a month, the vibes don’t ever change. For years, Sunday at the Training Shed – organised by the Sideshow promoters – was unique for transforming the Labrador Park area into a communal hub for families, ravers, artists, and other like-minded folks who simply wanted a chillax sesh before the Monday blues kicked in. Kids scampered around the makeshift playgrounds while graffiti artists painted the walls; foodies dug into BBQ treats and beers as punters grooved to a consistent melange of hip-hop, soul, funk, reggae, and disco – Sunday at the Training Shed stood out from the party scene, which is why its proclaimed swan song in November 2015 was such a crushing blow.
But if you’ve been keeping track of the shenanigans that the Sideshow folks have been up to, you might’ve been aware of the handful of pop-up parties they’ve thrown at Kult Kafe. And having successfully tested the waters these past few months, it seems like they’re finally ready for the big reveal: Sunday at the Training Shed is now back and rebranded as Sunday on the Hill!
Though the surroundings may be different, the premise of the party remains unbattered – expect a family-friendly jamboree of garden bowling, pool tables, darts, Airmocks, coffee and cocktails. And the soundtrack is as chipper as ever; get jiving to tunes from Sideshow residents and guests, including Tom Shellsuit, Stew Bamrah, Mr Assin and Moodpack. It all sounds straight-up familiar to us, and we can’t wait to welcome this sorely-missed bash back to the scene.
Sunday on the Hill, 8 May, 3pm-10pm, Kult Kafe, 1 Upper Wilkie Road, Singapore 228120, p. 9190 1481. Free entry.
