Get acquainted with Capitol Piazza, the spanking new shopping mall in City Hall with a fab line-up of high-end fashion boutiques, hair and nail salons, a Taiwanese dessert cafe and craft beer bar
When you’re addicted to shopping like we are, there’s nothing better than hearing news of a new mall opening in Singapore. The new shopping haunt that has been getting us all excited is Capitol Piazza, and being the diligent journalists that we are, we scoped out the best stores in Capitol Piazza worth checking out.
Marimekko (L2-17)
Time to go print crazy! Marimekko’s first standalone store in Singapore promises to be an utterly gorgeous one – brimming with the Finnish label’s range of super chic apparel, accessories, and home wares in an explosion of vibrant prints. You can also expect to see the iconic Unikko poppy graphic, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, in all its glory.
Manifesto (L2-19)
All set to shake up Singapore’s retail scene is Manifesto, the lifestyle concept store by French fashion veteran Walid Zaazaa. There’s no denying the store’s chic Parisian pedigree: just hit the racks and you’ll find an inventory of très cool, cult labels such as Barbara Bui, Costume National, Christophe Lemaire, and Maison Kitsuné. The price points are pretty damn attractive too, ranging anywhere from $5 to $5,000 for gadgets, home accessories, and even haute couture.
Benjamin Barker (B1-30)
Benjamin Barker is showing no signs of slowing down, going from strength to strength with its eighth and latest retail outlet. Suit makers by trade, the locally-founded label is sticking to what it does best with a dapper collection of heritage-inspired menswear, shoes, and accessories for the modern day gentleman/dandy.
Max.Tan (L2-15)
After considerable success overseas, the local designer is finally putting down roots with his first flagship boutique in Singapore. Staying true to the label’s edgy, experimental, and avant-garde aesthetic, the new shop space is a study in monochromatic minimalism – stocking the label’s latest Spring/Summer 2015 collection as well as local brands such as YouYou and Mandy Wu.
Prep Luxe (AC-62)
Prep goes glam with a posh, new beauty salon. But fret not; blowouts aren’t the only thing on the menu. Get prepped and pampered to perfection with a myriad treatments and styling services for your tresses. Getting ready for a big night out on the town with the girls? We suggest making a date with Prep Luxe first to get your nails and makeup done in style.
Truefitt & Hill (AC-61)
When past clientele includes the likes of Cary Grant, Sir Winston Churchill, and Frank Sinatra, one thing’s for sure: Truefitt & Hill is the real deal. This 200 year-old British barbershop – and one of the top men’s grooming spots – sure knows how to spoil a gent with a slew of shaving services, haircuts, mani pedis, massages, and waxing treatments. It doesn’t get any better than that, especially when you factor in the ultra exclusive gentlemen’s club-like surroundings.
Branché Hair & Nail (B1-33)
Tucked away in the basement of Capitol Piazza is Branché Hair & Nail, the award-winning beauty salon hailing from Japan. Helmed by a team of veteran stylists from Japan, the intimate yet lavish joint offers a full suite of hair styling and nail services. Prices range from $30 for a fringe cut to $800 for the Branché Original Head Spa.
Angelina (GL-82)
Direct from Rue Rivoli, famed Parisian pâtisserie Angelina makes its local debut with a beautifully appointed and elegant tearoom that offers an authentic salon de thé experience in the heart of Capitol Piazza. Fans can indulge their sweet tooth with Angelina’s spread of almost-too-pretty-to-eat pastries such as the iconic Mont-Blanc and the world-famous Traditional Hot Chocolate ‘L’Africain’.
TAP Craft Beer Bar (GL-88)
It’s always beer o’clock at TAP with not one, but 20 (!) choices of beers on tap. This casual joint is, without doubt, every beer-lover’s wet dream, thanks to its dizzying selection of craft beers (on draft and bottled) by Lost Coast, Modern Times, Strand, and plenty more – as well as the delish bar grub for hungry revellers to snack on.
Dazzling Café (GL-85)
Dazzling Café has already taken Taiwan by storm and it looks like Singapore is next. Awash with baby blue hues, the cosy yet whimsical dessert café serves up sugary, Instagram-worthy treats such as its signature Shibuya-style honey toast and mochi “QQ” Waffle – complete with scoops of Haagen Dazs Ice Cream. Take note: the spot draws crowds on the weekends, so be prepared to wait.
