Tender, flavourful pork chops with both sweet and savoury toppings are the main star at this casual restaurant in Ngee Ann City's basement.
As you might’ve guessed by its childhood storybook moniker, Three Little Pigs is a restaurant that has pork front and center. Housed in the basement of Ngee Ann City, the restaurant has an easy-going, modern warehouse vibe with a neutral palette and industrial, brick-and-metal touches.
Well-seared and slow-cooked pork chops, sourced from Holland and Brazil, are this joint’s pride and joy. There are six flavours available, from the sweet apricot relish to the savoury garlic al fungi, and each 200g slab of loin is served with piping hot baked potatoes topped with cheddar and pork floss, Asian greens, and house-pickled cucumbers and apples. We had ours with the Apple Buerre Blanc ($17.80) and Champignon Red Wine ($19.80). In the former, Granny Smith apple sticks and a delectable white wine apple sauce add a hint of refreshing sourness, enhancing the tender pork chop’s flavour. On the other end of the spectrum, the Champignon Red Wine, drizzled onto copious slices of button mushrooms, had an intense smoky depth.
Another stand-out meaty main was the East-meets-West roasted pork belly risotto ($16.80). We wasted no time in polishing off the melt-in-your-mouth pork belly, which had a delightfully crisp skin. The risotto, topped with freshly-shaved parmigiana cheese, asparagus and three kinds of mushrooms (shiitake, enoki and button), was creamy without being cloying.
If you’d like sides to share, zero in on the golden-battered Prawn & Bacon Frits ($9.80), served with a tasty mango chili relish, and the sinfully rich, greasy 3P Original Pork Slider ( $5.80). For something light yet comforting, the tangy 3P Pork Goulash ($6.80) has a thinner consistency than usual – perhaps to avoid overpowering the unctuous, fatty cubes within.
Can’t miss dessert? We recommend going for the bite-sized trio of crispy orh nee (yam) roll ($6.80), a contemporary take on the local treat, served alongside a sesame-filled tang yuan (glutinous rice ball) in delectable peanut sauce, and a dollop of vanilla ice cream.
