Treat yourself to a wholesome Mediterranean-vegetarian meal at this long-standing Holland Village favourite
With so much to see, eat, and do in Holland Village, there’s no denying that it’s one of our favourite ‘hoods in Singapore (we know we’re not alone on this). We’re definitely the most spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants in the area, but time and time again, we find ourselves stepping into Original Sin at Chip Bee Gardens when we’re craving a guilt-free meal that doesn’t compromise on flavour.
What we like about Original Sin is that it’s consistent in terms of food quality (probably why it’s been around for almost 15 years – it’s a great recipe for success). Visiting it this time was no different from other times, and favourites like the Bosco Misto (spinach, feta, and tofu patties coated with crushed almonds and sesame seeds – a bestseller since the restaurant’s inception) and the earthy, creamy Magic Mushroom (baked Portobello mushroom with ricotta cheese, pesto, spinach, topped with mozzarella and tomato basil sauce) definitely did not let us down.
Other items we tried – such as the mezze platter and the vegetable tandoori – were equally tantalising. The highlight of the former was definitely the hummus, which was heavier and creamier than usual, and the latter was just a wonderful mish-mash of chargrilled delights like button mushrooms, brinjal, capsicum, onions, and tofu – the tandoori marinade was perfect and all the elements went well with the sides of yoghurt, rice, and mango chutney.
If you’re here and you see specials like the burrata and the potato gnocchi on the menu, do yourself a favour and order these creations, too. These items are not available every day, so don’t miss the chance to sample them.
For dessert, order treats like the super light, super airy tiramisu (great if you like the coffee flavour really strong) and the apple crumble – which is actually pastry-less and boasts strong notes of cinnamon – to end your Mediterranean-vegetarian feast.
