5 things to eat this weekend
Bonjour, weekend warriors! We’ll be revelling in everything from elegant English afternoon teas and gourmet burgers to succulent seafood boils and cosy French communal dinners over the next couple of days. Enjoy!
#1 – Drinks and Nibbles at 31 Bar & Kitchen
Previously known as fine-dining French resto Provence Le Restaurant, this dainty shophouse along Keong Saik is now 31 Bar & Kitchen. Head here for some after work vino (which is imported directly from small producers) and East-meets-West bar bites. We liked the Beef in a Bun, Char Siew Arancini, and the Duck Platter for sharing.
#2 – English Afternoon Tea at L’Espresso
Afternoon tea stalwart, L’Espresso at Goodwood Park Hotel, has expanded its teatime offerings. On top of well-loved favourites, those in pursuit of an elegant tea can expect additions like a charcuterie selection with German Black Forest Ham and Duck Rillette, a dedicated Chocolate Corner (chocolate fountain, brownies, pralines, and truffles included), and a new range of confectionaries like Tiramisu and Sago Gula Melaka.
#3 – Burgers and Fries at Omakase Burger
The gourmet burger gods have heard our pleas for another (good) burger joint in town. Try their new Premium Omakase Bun (it’s supposed to be softer, fluffier, and possess a more distinctive bite than its predecessor), the Applewood Smoked Bacon Cheeseburger, and the super sinful Beef Tallow Fries at Omakase Burger’s second outlet at Wisma Atria.
The Pelican Seafood Bar & Grill
#4 – The Pelican Boil at The Pelican Seafood Bar & Grill
Saturdays are going to get messy at The Pelican Seafood Bar & Grill. These folks have just unveiled The Pelican Boil, where seafood like clams, crabs, mussels, prawns, and lobster are served straight from the pot and onto your table. Best part? You get to have a meal without plates or utensils, yay!
#5 – Cocotte Sharing Dishes at Balzac Brasserie
Executive Chef Jean-Charles Dubois has added cocotte dishes – a cast iron pot with a lid – to the a la carte menu at Balzac Brasserie. Choices for these sharing dishes include Braised Spanish Pork with French Lentils and Natural Jus and Roasted Tiger Prawns with French Fried Rice served with Lemon Zest. The communal-style of dining with these additions (also avaible for weekend brunch) means the bigger the dinner party, the better. Bon appetite!
