You're not seeing things, indie music lovers. The music and arts festival that took Fort Canning by storm is coming back
Who here remembers the electronica-soaked symphonies of Kiasmos and The Field? Or the tender intimacies that surrounded the likes of Daughter and Damien Rice? Or the funky soul train busted out by CHIC Feat. Nile Rodgers and, most memorable of all, the thunderstorm that accompanied the disco delights of Flight Facilities (we still have our soaked wristbands to prove it)? If you can’t wait to go through all of this one more time, you’d best be celebrating…right…now.
UPDATE: Check out our recommendations of the fringe events you can find at Neon Lights.
Far from a one-trick pony, the Neon Lights indie music and arts festival has officially announced that it will be having its sophomore run on 26 and 27 November. Lest you wanna know why we’re getting all excited, here’s what went down last year.
Dropping a huge bombshell on the indie scene, Neon Lights has released more deets on its line-up and it’s star-studded enough to make any hardy hipster thrilled. Joining the headlining ranks of Foals and Sigur Rós, are ‘gothtronica’ rebels Crystal Castles, chill-wave cruiser Neon Indian, r&b crooner Blood Orange, and singer-songwriters Shura, Lucy Rose, and The Tallest Man On Earth. A lot of these acts are not only huge names, but also make their way to Singapore for the very first time.
And as if that wasn’t enough, legends like The Sugarhill Gang (known for their seminal hip-hop anthem, “Rapper’s Delight”), and P-funk pioneers George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic are making rare appearances too. Also on the bill is the electronica-peddling Gold Panda, the folky Jose Gonzalez, post-rockers 65daysofstatic, instrumental hip-hoppers Badbadnotgood, and the new-wave of Pumarosa. Just like last year’s debut edition, local bands also enter the fray – Gentle Bones, Cashew Chemists, Disco Hue, and Linying; we couldn’t be prouder!
Neon Lights 2016, 26 and 27 November, Fort Canning Park, River Valley Road, Singapore 179037. For information on tickets, visit this website.
