Hot on the heels of McDonald's, The Beast has released a nasi lemak burger that scores points for authenticity thanks to the addition of deep-fried rice patties
Despite receiving mixed reviews, McDonald’s nasi lemak burger was a runaway success, selling out just two weeks after its release. But still, its detractors lamented the omission of a key ingredient in any good nasi lemak – the creamy, coconut-infused rice. The Beast, however (a Southern cuisine restaurant specialising in chicken and waffles), has just entered the fray with its own rendition of the nasi lemak burger which actually does contain the quintessential ‘nasi’ , along with other Singaporean-inspired dishes.
The Beast Nasi Lemak Burger ($20) gets a little closer to the traditional dish with a Southern fried chicken thigh smothered with house-made sambal, a runny egg, and two deep fried coconut rice ‘buns’. Adding to the indulgence, and authenticity, is a side of spam fries.
Other dishes include the salted egg yolk chicken and pandan waffles that feature a creamy milk sauce. Fans of cheese fries should spring for the beef rendang cheese fries ($14) made with a secret rendang recipe and oozy mozzarella cheese. And you can evenwash it all down with a refreshing pandan Arnold Palmer ($6).
Want to try it all? Order the ‘Yum Seng to SG52’ set deal and get all three dishes along with two pandan Arnold Palmers for just $52 – provided that you ‘yum seng’ (toast) with The Beast’s friendly servers.
