Featuring The Veronicas, Aaradhna, Raisa and local musicians, this gig in Singapore in September promotes new music from all around the world
It’s pretty fascinating how elites of all industries tend to flock to our lil’ isle despite it being practically invisible on the world map. Singapore has attracted top gourmands, renowned mixologists, international artists whose works transcend borders, and come September, musicians from all walks of life for this giga-sized gig.
Year after year, that’s always been the cosmopolitan appeal of the ambitious, astounding Music Matters Festival – traditionally a multi-day music festival that takes over live music areas like Timbre, gathering loads of musicians of all genres from countries as far as Scotland and South Africa. Often, most acts on the bill are on the cusp of breaking through, which makes Music Matters an engaging way to discover new music, whether you’re into hip-hop, folk, blues or even K-pop. And it’s not just the international acts who benefit from this exposure; local acts like Gentle Bones, Take Two and sub:shaman have Music Matters to thank for boosting their then-nascent reputations.
Now on its sixth edition in Singapore, Music Matters is once again triggering tremors in the music industry with its latest development: it’s having a change of scenery! Over four nights during 12-15 September, stages will not only be found at hip haunt, Timbre, but also one of the most hyped (and biggest) nightspots that’s stirring the club scene, Millian. We’ve been told that these immersive venues will host the likes of The Veronicas (Australia), Bastian Baker (Switzerland), Alex Cuba (Canada), Garden City Movement (Israel), P!SCO (Taiwan), and dozens more. And if it’s anything like previous years, we’re hoping to discover more budding homegrown talents as well.
