The first Kickstarter brick-and-mortar store in Asia, We The People Singapore gets rid of waiting time, shipping costs, and all doubts when you fund a Kickstarter project
A bed that makes itself, a kitchen robot that reads out cooking recipes, and – taking a cue from Back To The Future – shoes that tie themselves and jackets that blow-dry when soaked; with crowd-sourced funding rallied by the ingenious initiative that is Kickstarter, anything seems possible these days! But how legitimate are these entrepreneurial concepts? How do you know that what you’re donating goes to the real deal, and not some technological travesty? Forget about scrutinising YouTube videos and wishful thinking; get your peace of mind by visiting the world’s first Kickstarter-centric product store in Singapore.
Opening on 3 September at Orchard Central, this new-fangled brick-and-mortar store is the first of its kind in Asia. Named We The People, this retail space not only enlightens customers about the Kickstarter story and design process, but it gives them a physical preview of Kickstarter’s internationally-backed products, and even lets them purchase these new-age goods directly once they’ve perceived that reality has met their expectations. No more waiting time and shipping costs, and no more impulse buys gone wrong!
Who knows what spectacular Internet idea you’ll find manifested in this store? But from what we’ve gathered so far, it’s pretty certain that you’ll be able to take home The Everyday Messenger from U.S. (Kickstarter’s most funded bag for cameras and essential items), Lyfe from Sweden (a zero-gravity plant-growing device that floats), AirBolt from Australia (a “truly-smart” travel lock for your luggage), and even Singapore’s own Aki (a minimalist bifold slim wallet funded in just there hours). And even if you’re not looking to purchase anything in particular, browsing through We The People and its life-hacking inventions will strike some inspo into you that will surely make you go, “Why didn’t I think of that?”.
We The People, Orchard Central, 181 Orchard Road, Singapore 238896. Officially opens on 3 September.
