In this month's edition of Hot New Cafes: Real Food's new Orchard Central outlet, Enchanted Cafe, The Masses and more
If you’re wondering if we ever tire of hunting for new cafes, the answer is always a resounding ‘no’. It should be obvious by now that we love our coffee as much as brunch – nothing in this world quite tops a lazy weekend over a cuppa and oozing eggs over toast. So let’s go with it, shall we? From magical garden-themed cafes to a new CBD health food joint, here’s this month’s list of Hot New Cafes in Singapore.
.mo-ii
Add this one to your lunch rotation, health foodies. You’re going to want to take Instagram pics of all your food at .mo-ii: a cafe, slated to open in late April at GSH Plaza. Its menu promises hearty, healthy and (perhaps most importantly for the Insta-hungry) good-looking food made simple. We can’t wait to see the complete lineup of all of its dishes, but one thing’s for sure: there’ll be creamy avocado toast, topped with all things delicious, including smoked salmon, strawberries and balsamic cherry tomatoes.
.mo-ii, GSH Plaza, #01-07, 20 Cecil Street, Singapore 049705.
The Masses
Aimed at serving up “contemporary, happy food”, The Masses has been staying true to its word so far with quality restaurant fare at affordable prices. Don’t be surprised to see familiar Saveur dishes (like the crab & caviar angel hair pasta) on its menu – its owner was the co-founder of the French food chain. Dishes to try include the deep-fried camembert dessert, 12-hour braised short ribs and The Egg: a silky egg custard served with spoonfuls of salmon roe and flying fish roe, served with crispy house chips and hazelnut butter. Bonus: Most of the dishes are priced below $20.
The Masses, 85 Beach Road, #01-02, Singapore 189694.
Real Food
For healthy eaters, Real Food is a household name. Run by a passionate team of ethical food advocates, it’s free from meat, processed ingredients, and trans-fat. While this isn’t exactly a new addition to the cafe scene, Real Food’s Killiney outlet has since closed and shifted to Orchard Central. The new location is fairly massive, with 250 seats, a grocery section, and plush seating if you need a little respite.
Real Food, Orchard Central, #02-16, 181 Orchard Road, Singapore 238896.
Enchanted Cafe
If you’ve got a soft spot for garden-themed cafes, you’ll hit jackpot with Enchanted Cafe. The Pinterest-worthy coffee nook features walls lined with synthetic grass and wooden bookcases. Fairylights strung across a dry tree without leaves light up a corner, while diners sitting adjacent on mismatched furniture tuck into classic brunch grub and hearty mains. For something really kitschy, order The Sorceror’s Elixir. It’s got all the nuts and bolts for an Instagram-worthy post: think dry ice, a stone bowl and a colour-changing drink.
Enchanted Cafe, 88 Rangoon Road, #01-04, Singapore 218374.
