Yakitori sticks and fruity cocktails, craft beer rarities, or fine single malt Scotch? Whichever you prefer, August’s bevy of new bars are sure to excite even the most seasoned of bar hoppers. Here’s Hot New Bars for August.
CHIKIN
You can’t go wrong with creative cocktails and Japanese bar bites, can you? This brand new yakitori joint on Bukit Pasoh lane serves up a chicken-centric yakitori skewers and other classic Japanese izakaya dishes like karaage (with a cool yuzu mayo dip). The bar also offers a selection of signature cocktails that include novel infusions and fruity twists – but there’s always ice-cold Asahi on tap if you prefer.

The Writing Club
The Writing Club is one of Singapore’s newest dedicated whisky bars, or rather, ‘whisky library’, as they prefer to call it. The luxe whisky haven, located at Palais Renaissance, boasts a collection of over 500 hand-picked labels of rare and collectible whiskies from across the world. Even if you’re unfamiliar with the world of whisky, The Writing Club’s knowledgeable staff will set you on the path to your perfect dram.

Sixteen Ounces
The craft beer movement in Singapore is a vibrant one with dozens of craft beer bars and even local microbreweries. Entering the fray is Sixteen Ounces – a craft beer bar at The Rail Mall offering six beers on tap and over 20 bottled brews. On tap, you’ll find juicy, fruity IPAs like the Stone Tangerine Express as well as lighter, weather-appropriate session golden ales like Stockade’s The Sesh. Sixteen Ounces also offers bar bites like spicy drumlets, prawn rolls, and more.

Bar Rouge
Taking over New Asia Bar’s posh premises is Shanghai nightlife institution, Bar Rouge. The bar and club, which will open soon, will most likely feature its hallmark East-meets-West aesthetic, bangin’ dancefloor favourites, and internationally renowned DJs.

Propeller Rooftop Bar
Too lazy to hop on the skytrain and check out Sentosa’s beach bar scene? Head over instead to Harbourfront’s first rooftop bar, Propeller. Set between Sentosa and Mount Faber, you’re certain to enjoy spectacular sunsets while enjoying the bar’s selection of signature cocktails and tapas plates.
