Catch Mee Pok Man
So I have a confession to make: I’ve yet to catch this feature film debut of acclaimed local director, Eric Khoo. Well, considering the fact that I was merely seven when this film came out – Mee Pok Man was given a R-21 rating due to its racy, grimy nature, revolving around the interactions between a noodle seller and a prostitute – I’ve a valid excuse! Thankfully, albeit 20 years later, The Projector is saluting this relic of local film culture with screening sessions this month, alongside rare, interactive dialogues with those involved in this masterpiece. Not gonna miss this for the world… and yes, I will probably have mee pok for my post-movie supper.
Get reacquainted with a drum & bass phenom
I’ve been raving at dance parties for about 10 years now, and nothing gets my adrenaline swirling as wildly as a jungle gig. And if you regard yourself as a BPM-bruising junglist yourself, you’ll know that Goldie is king. Indeed, the UK legend is returning to Singapore for a DJ set at Canvas – a club that he’s no stranger to having played there numerous times, even when it used to be known as Home Club. For a show that truly pushes the tempo, this one’s it!
Make another trip to the best bar in Asia
With hot new bars constantly popping outta nowhere, it’s been hard for me to catch up with seasoned cornerstones of the cocktail scene. In case you haven’t heard the hype, 28 Hong Kong Street was recently announced as the top dog in Asia’s 50 Best Bars poll, and deservedly so! Sounds like it’s high time I paid this establishment another boozy visit.

Catch season six of Game of Thrones
The wait has been long enough! Last season was absolutely spectacular (who could forget Cersei’s Walk of Shame?), and I can’t wait to see if Jon Snow is really dead. If, like me, you’ve been trawling fan sites for spoilers, read my interview with Bran Stark for hints on what’s to come for the greenseer.
Go for an exquisite high tea without breaking the bank
High tea is expensive… or so I thought. I’ve been to a number of places for tea and scones with my girlfriends, and the good ones are always costly. So I was surprised when I heard about Hotel Intercontinental’s $42++ high tea – homemade jam, exquisite brews and a divine luxe space? Sign me up!
Visit the Affordable Art Fair
I’m not an art collector, but I sure as heck love looking at it. The Affordable Art Fair is back in town for the third year running, and I can’t wait to go googly-eyed over all the gorgeous, masterpieces I can actually afford. I’ve already marked my calendar for AAFter Glow Evening on Friday night – this will feature stunning live art performances, as well as food and drink from Bistro 1855.

Experience Songkran for the first time ever
One good reason to head back to the oh-so-fun city of Bangkok is definitely Songkran. Typically held in April, Songkran is a festival celebrating the traditional Thai New Year, and it involves throwing and sprinkling of water to signify the purification and washing away of sins and bad luck. And while this cultural event might have adopted a hedonistic modern spin – becoming a mad water spectacle with people splashing tonnes of water on you while you’re simply strolling down the streets (we kid you not!), it’d still be an eye-opening experience for me to finally witness the whole Songkran madness with my very own eyes. And if what I hear is true, I should probably waterproof my personal belongings!
Shop from local blogshops and designers
With sad news of the closure of Singapore’s beloved vintage shop, Max Tan, I think it is about time for us to show some love and support homegrown designers and local blogshops – ’cause if we don’t, who will? And guys, if you’re not aware, there’re plenty of local male blogshops and online retailers where you can shop from. Sixth Empire, Archules and The Authority… just to name a few!
Indulge in some men’s grooming
Let’s face it – it’s no longer a shameful thing for guys in today’s contemporary society to engage in some sort of grooming. So this month, I have made plans to strip it clean down below (yet again, yes again!) and get a good Boyzillian. A few places where you can get a professional Boyzillian service in Singapore include We Need A Hero, Fabulous Aesthetics and STRIP. Well, like they often say, no pain, no gain – wish me luck!

Visit Challenger at Funan before it’s gone
Some of my fondest, dorkiest childhood memories were made at Funan The IT Mall, from queuing up hours for Halo: Reach’s release to wandering the game stores with a pocket full of birthday cash. Since this hub of all that is techy is closing down for redevelopment, I’m going to make one last pilgrimage there to see what I can get my hands on at Challenger’s closing down sale. Might snag a lovely new monitor as well!
Watch Captain America: Civil War
I’m really nerding out this this month, so I’m going to try my absolute best to snag release-day tickets for this much-awaited Marvel flick. I’m especially excited to see Spiderman’s entry into the franchise, as well as the dynamic between Captain America and Iron Man. If this one’s anything like the previous two Avengers movies, we’ll be up for a heck of a ride!
Get messy with baby back ribs or great big burger
If you work at Honeycombers for any short period of time, you’ll find that food is constantly on your mind. So I like to make sure I try something new at least once a week. This weekend, two restos are on my mind: Dallas Restaurant & Bar and South Bronx. The former has a newly opened outlet in the food haven that is Suntec City’s Sky Garden, and I’ve been told it does up some magnificently messy pork ribs. Also on my radar is South Bronx, a burger joint that opened a while back that promises gourmet burgers at unpretentious prices.
