We tackled gravity in this killer bungee workout which had us jumping, diving and flying through the room.
Bored of your usual gyms and fitness classes? If you’re looking for a totally wacky way to shake up your exercise routine, you’ll love the revolutionary bungee dance workout, offered at Dancevault Singapore, a fitness studio located at East Coast Road and Braddell.
Bungee dance is exactly like how it sounds – you’ll be hooked up to a bungee cord from a harness suspended from the ceiling. Your bungee lets you do things a person with average fitness would not be able to do – think wall climbs, floor dives, one-handed push-ups and gliding around the room almost weightlessly.
The experience
Five of us with varying levels of fitness excitedly trooped down to Dancevault on a late evening. The first thing you need to do before starting the class is to secure your bungee cords. You’ll need to don the thick neoprene pants before putting on your bungee cord – these will prevent any chafing, and for you to keep from slipping and sliding. Two straps will be hooked onto your upper thighs, while a large one will be secured around your hips.

The first thing that crossed my mind as we got to warm ups was the realisation that I had nothing to support me from the front. Confession: There was mild panic as we got down to jumping into push ups. I was afraid of hurting my joints, but quickly learned that there was nothing to fear, as your reliable bungee will let you land and lift yourself up safely.
The highlight
Soaring through the air with your bungee a la Spiderman was definitely the highlight. The sheer adrenaline rush from this was worth the sweat, every ache, and initial confusion.
During our session, we learned different bits of a routine, before going through the whole shebang at the end. It was challenging as we struggled to keep up with the steps, but once we mastered the routine, it felt like a real achievement. Our aching arms, legs, and especially our core the next day were proof of how hard we’d worked. We’d highly recommend giving this a try as it’s a completely alternative workout and it blitzes a ton of calories. Plus, let’s face it: gliding through the air on a bungee is a heck lot more fun than lifting weights or pounding the treadmill at the gym.
