Eat, drink and play while you watch golf’s top players battle it out at Sentosa Golf Club this January
Dust off your clubs and start practising that winning swing, ‘cos the world’s best golfers will be descending on our sunny lil’ island for the SMBC Singapore Open 2017! Happening from 19 to 22 January at the stunning 18-hole Serapong course at Sentosa Golf Club, this tournament lets golfing fans catch the action from different vantage points that offer a panoramic view of the fairways.
Watch world-class golfers compete for the grand prize of $1 million dollars – some big names on the lineup include three-time champion (and world number seven) Adam Scott, four-time Major winner Ernie Els, Spanish wunderkind Sergio Garcia and defending champ Younghan Song. If you’re a stickler for following the game, this year’s SMBC Singapore Open features stops like the 1018 Sky Deck, The Stands @ 17th and The Range @ New Tanjong, all amazing spots for views of the greens.
Overlooking the 18th hole and 10th tee, 1018 Sky Deck is the place to savour a cocktail or two. As it stands, the best things in life aren’t free; admission charges apply to both adults ($5) and children ($2), but with proceeds going to the event’s official charity, Arc Children’s Centre, it’s worth every penny! Get up close with the action at The Stands @ 17th, which gives spectators a front-row view of the par-three penultimate hole. Here, you can rest your feet at the grandstand or grab a snack while cheering on your favourite players. If you’re new to golf, The Village @ 18th has interactive golf-themed activities for the family, so you can try getting into the game with ease.
For VIP perks, snag yourselves some passes to the Suites @ 18th pavilion. Priced from $500 (Thursday) to $2,000 (season), these tickets give you access to daily player appearances and interviews, a five-star breakfast, buffet luncheon and afternoon tea provided by Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa, and a beverage service that includes beers, wine and soft drinks.
Hungry? You bet! At The Range @ New Tanjong, Sentosa Golf Club’s practice green, load up on bites from The Smoke Shack and Japanese food station 9 Samurai, and wash it all down with an ice-cold beer at the beer garden. Making sure everyone’s tuned into the game at all times, it has big screens showing every moment of the tournament, so you won’t have to miss a thing.
While you’re there, do your bit for charity at Chip In For Arc Challenge, a mini competition where participants try to hit and land a set of three balls within a two-metre zone around three different pin positions. The winner walks away with prizes including business class return tickets to Bangkok. What are you waiting for? It’s time to tee off!
