Dance lovers, rejoice! Sign up for exciting performances, workshops and public group workouts for friends and family, happening all around Singapore in City Hall, Kallang, Toa Payoh and more in the month of October
Yes, we are nearing the end of 2016… and if you haven’t started on your resolution to get fit and fab, it’s still not too late to hop off the couch! From 7 to 23 October, get down and groovy at Got to Move, a series of dance events organised by the National Arts Council. There are free dance programmes, talks, exhibitions and workshops for both newbies and dance lovers, held at venues like the Empress Lawn, Stamford Arts Centre, Kallang Wave Mall and Bedok Town Square. You can even stand to win $100 worth of prizes just by participating (is that enough incentive to be a lil’ less lazy?)! So dust off those Lululemons, gather the squad, and check out these spotlight events.
Discover the art of dance photography
Aspiring shutterbugs, head down to the Stamford Arts Centre for A Slice In Time (7-23 October), a dance photography exhibition showcasing over 100 works by four established dance photographers, Robin Chee, Matthew Johnson, Tan Ngiap Heng and Bernie Ng. Capturing moving shots like these is just as tricky as the choreography itself, if you ask us!
Get the whole family involved
There are also fun bonding opportunities with the kids – opt for a parent-child workshop Movement of Joints (9 October) at SAFRA Toa Payoh for an interactive introduction to puppetry and dance. But mum and pops aren’t left out either; they can show off their best moves at the GTM Mass Dance and K-Kardio session at GTM @ Kallang Wave Mall (8 October), or get their groove on at Let’s Dance, a community dance event at Bedok Town Square (16 October).
The showdown is on!
Fans of Step Up, cheer on your favourite dance crew at Urban16 (22-23 October) in Suntec City Mall West Atrium, an event that’ll bring the urban dance community together with exciting showdowns and showcases. The two-day convention also features demo sessions and an exhibition for a complete low-down on the art form.
Keeping fit and fidgety
Get your heart pumping and keep those calories in check at the Bounce party as part of GTM @ Kallang Wave Mall (8 October), where you’ll be working out on trampolines to dancey DJ tunes. Happening at the Empress Lawn and Asian Civilisations Museum Green, GTM @ Civic District (15 October) lets visitors embark on interactive dance trails and take part in hands-on workshops, on top of enjoying performances by local dance companies.
Exciting prizes and rewards
Still not inspired? How about this for a motivational booster – all you have to do is to stop by a minimum of two Got to Move events and you’ll be eligible to walk away with dance and lifestyle vouchers. Better yet, up your quota to three, and you can stand a chance to redeem up to $100 worth of these freebies.
