Casual French dining, cheap wine happy hour, and melted cheese galore! This buzzy wine bar in Duxton Hill is perfect for a night out with the girls or a romantic date.
Taking over the top of buzzy Duxton Hill is a little French nook that adds a dash of je ne sais quoi to the street. If you haven’t ventured all the way up to L’Entrecote, you’re missing a treat. We recently paid a visit to L’Entrecote Wine Bar – not to be confused with the swish steak and fries bistro next door; same resto, different menu and vibe – to fill our faces with French fromage and a glass or two of fruity red (such good value was the vino, we would have swilled a lot more were we not on professional best behaviour!). If French cuisine is your bag, this one is worth checking out; bon appetit!
With two seating options available – alfresco to watch the world go by, or a cosy pocket indoors – this is a great venue for both casual date nights, or a girlie #squad get-together. We opted for the latter and found ourselves perched next to the incredible vertiginous wine fridge (leaving us to wonder whether it would be reasonable to install one at home. Answer? Hell yes!). With more bottles than you could shake a stick at, the wine selection here did not disappoint. More on that later…
The menu here is fuss-free, perfect for sharing, and reads like a dream for anyone who loves cheese and French comfort nosh. Classics including fondue, tartiflette, and raclette all make an appearance. We kicked off our veritable feast with a duo of tartines; one topped with sweet onion relish and oozing rounds of goats cheese, and the other slathered with piquant whole grain mustard and thick slabs of beautifully smoked salmon. Shout out to the authentic baguette too; the perfect vessel for these divine toppings.
The star of the show, however, – not to mention the reason why we’ll be making a return – is the raclette. Melted cheese dripping over new potatoes and zingy gherkins is our kinda dinner. We recommend ordering an extra side of cheese; sounds excessive, but you’ll need unwavering willpower to stop after the already-generous portion starts disappearing!
Another must-order is the pierrade, consider it the French equivalent of a Korean BBQ. We opted for the surf and turf option that featured thick strips of salmon and steak, plus juicy prawns and scallops, all prepped and ready for BBQ action on our tabletop grill. Hugely popular in France, but rarely seen in Singapore, the pierrade is a fun, DIY dining option and we loved cooking up these meaty treats.
That wine we mentioned earlier? The happy hour (from 5-7pm, Tuesday to Sunday) is an oenophile’s dream; $7 for a crackin’ glass of rouge, blanc, or bubbles? Salute! Cocktails also go for a mere $10 a pop, making this a very affordable happy hour indeed. Keep an eye out for the wine tasting events too; we’re talking $40 for two hours of free-flow. Sign us up now!
