Smoothing hair treatments, manicures, pedicures, threading – and cocktails? We think we've found our fave new salon...
Local Singaporeans know just how hot it can get in the country, but newcomers – particularly expats and foreigners – are often caught off guard when they first move to or visit Singapore. The heat can be an absolute nightmare, and the thing some don’t expect is how intense the humidity can be – and how it’s going to affect one’s hair. Hello, frizz. So, what do most ladies with long tresses end up doing? Keeping your hair in a topknot is one answer, but what if we told you there’s a better solution? Enter Neat Salon, a chic salon on Yong Siak Street. This all-in-one beauty destination has you sorted with a full salon experience, plus a bar! Every full service (comprising hair and nail services for both men and women) includes a drink of your choice – the perfect way to create a relaxing salon experience.
It offers a range of treatments for your locks including Dyna, a smoothing treatment by Japanese haircare brand Mucota, which is designed to take the frizz away and bring you gorgeous hair all day, every day. It’s a safer alternative to the well-known keratin treatment as the fumes are less hazardous to breathe in and it doesn’t contain formaldehyde. In fact, it’s so safe that the stylist doesn’t even need to wear gloves to apply it for you.
We recently had the chance to try Dyna ourselves, and even though the process took about two hours, we were certainly kept busy. We sat down, enjoyed an Asahi, and even got a fantastic gelish manicure while our hair was being done.
Once the Dyna has been applied, you sit for about 10 to 15 minutes for it to activate before they wash it out, dry your hair, then flat-iron it to your desired level of straightness before neutralising it and washing your hair once more. After the final wash, all you have to do is towel-dry, and your hair effortlessly returns to the polished, smooth look of a fresh blowout. We were advised not to get our hair wet for the next 24 hours, and when we did, we were encouraged to only use sulfate-free shampoo to preserve the treatment. Easy!
We were absolutely thrilled with the results and how it aligned with our low-maintenance approach to keeping our hair in tip-top condition. Our hair felt healthy and way more manageable than before. It’s also worth noting that the treatment lightens your hair colour just a touch. The treatment is meant to last about six months, and then you can go back for touch-ups as needed.
