Shop local produce, learn how to grow your own food and enjoy freshly grilled goodies at this family event in Dempsey
It’s no secret that we love a ol’ good farmer’s market – it’s the perfect antidote for when you need a detox from sterile supermarkets and pre-packaged, processed food. Next on our hit list? Head to Open Farm Community‘s Social Market if you’re planning to stock up on fresh produce; the event will feature local farmers, including the trendy Edible Garden City, an urban farming movement that supports growing your own food.
But more than just farm-fresh produce, the Social Market also champions local makers and producers. Think house plants and natural scented candles for the home and jars of homemade jam and sticky honey for the pantry. As you shop, there’s plenty to keep the munchies at bay; at the OFC booth, there’ll be fresh juices and grub, including a live grill station (featuring produce purchased from vendors), which you can enjoy with sauces and dips created by Open Farm Community’s Kitchen.
Shopping and great nosh aside, expect it to be a whole day out – there’ll be yoga classes held at the open lawn, a sunset screening of My Dharma (a collaborative documentary by Dharma Bums and Italian filmmaker, Alessandro Sigismondi) as well as gardening workshops that show you how to carry out your own “Grow your own food” movement.
Wanna make a positive change in your eating habits? It all starts here.
Open Farm Community’s Social Market is happening on 4 and 5 March, 11 am to 5pm at Open Farm Community, 130E Minden Road, Singapore 248819. Admission is free. For more information, head to the event page.
