What went down at F1 Singapore, you ask? Here’s the inside scoop on the best concerts, who had too much fun, and the who’s who spotted around town and at the parties
Now that F1 Singapore is done and the dust has settled (and our heads have cleared), the juiciest stories from Grand Prix weekend have emerged. We rounded up the F1 partygoers on our team and got them to dish out the all the hot goss, and the highs and lows of the night race and its raucous parties…
Coolio was M.I.A
Those who headed to Podium Lounge on Saturday night to see 90s rap legend Coolio and his band were seriously let down. Anonymous Honeycomber (who only wishes to be known as H.H) says, “word ‘round the room was that Coolio missed his flight and rescheduled his concert. Needless to say, we were sorely disappointed.”
But he didn’t perform on Sunday either. An official statement from Podium Lounge confirms this – although Coolio had arrived in Singapore on Sunday morning, he was denied entry. “The vibe was still great though, especially when the aerial dancers started doing their thing.” said H.H.
Bribery on the tracks
Bribery isn’t something we hear very often (or at all, really) in Singapore. So imagine the hooha that ensued when a Facebook post surfaced online of fans posing on the tracks and bragging about paying off a security guard to let them in. Scandal!
We hopped on the nostalgia train with Duran Duran
Old timers and English new wave and synth-pop band Duran Duran blazed the Padang stage on Sunday. Honeykids writer Tracy braved hours in the rain to get her front-row spot and says she’s “still feeling quite emosh now (and old).”. Her words say it best: “Duran Duran may all be nudging towards their pensioner years, but they still know how to rock a muddy field full of middle aged screaming banshees. When they played Ordinary World, I was a wreck!”
The thirst was real
Not everyone knows this, but Patrick Dempsey (AKA McDreamy, the resident heart throb medical drama Grey’s Anatomy) is a race car driver. So it should come as little surprise that he was spotted in Orchard during the F1 weekend. We know, we know…cue tears.
In other news of hotties in town, royal Hunk of the Moment Prince Abdul Mateen made an appearance at the races. We’ve heard multiple stories of ladies who stalked his Instagram stories closely and attempted to track him down. Chiselled good looks aside, Prince Mateen has a Master’s Degree in International Diplomacy from the University of London and is Acting Captain of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. Swoon.
Killer concerts to rival a dance festival
Feeding the frenzied masses’ thirst for dance music were The Chainsmokers and Calvin Harris. The former dutifully spun their massive hits like ‘Closer’ and ‘Roses’ to a mostly young crowd, with confetti and pyrotechnics going off on cue. Calvin Harris wrapped up the weekend with banger after banger, including his best-known tracks like “Feel so close”, “Blame” and crossover hits like “This is what you came for.”
