From speakeasies to cocktails with a traditional twist, we take a walk on the wild side and present you with the Honeycombers’ personal pick of the ‘maddest bars in Singapore’
We’ve seen GQ’s take on the six ‘maddest’ bars in Singapore, and we want to chip in too. We also have some choice bars to hit – all you have to do is pick a vibe, and you’ll be absolutely mad for these waterholes.
The Freshest: Flying Monkey
Jasmine-infused gin, mango lassi with a twist, whisky with coconut water – traditional ingredients come to life with the exotic cocktails at Flying Monkey. Pair your drink with the selection of Indian tapas for a unique dining experience.
Flying Monkey, 67 Bussorah Street, Singapore 199480. p. 6291 0695. Open daily 11.30am-11pm.
The Classic: 28 Hong Kong Street
Sans PR fanfare and signage out front, 28 Hong Kong Street is notorious for being low-key as the place teases peace and quiet with the nondescript entrance. But once inside, it’s rowdy enough to tempt you to kick back a few drinks with friends. Cocktails are also priced reasonably at $15-22. Reservations are required; tables get snapped up really fast here.
28 Hong Kong Street, 28 Hong Kong Street, Singapore 059667, p. 6533 2001.
The Highest: LeVeL33
LeVel33 is the first ever microbrewery in a skyscraper, and the highest microbrewery – and also the highest place in town for some good craft beer. Their signature craft beers are available on tap and you can choose from 33.1 Blond Lager, 33.2 Pale Ale, 33.3 Stout, 33.4 House Porter and 33.9 Wheat Beer.
LeVeL33, 8 Marina Boulevard, Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 1 #33-01, Singapore 018981, p. 6834 3133.
The Underground: The Other Room
Heads up: this is one bar that is really hidden away – and even keeps a minimal online presence. This “drinking house for the discerning” offers expertly crafted cocktails that pay homage to classic drinks while adding contemporary twists.
The Other Room, Marriott Hotel Singapore. Open Tue-Sun 6pm ’til late. Closed on Mon.
The Exclusive: The Wall
Enter the wonderful world of whisky at The Wall. While it is the perfect place for whisky lovers to indulge and sample the selection, newbies can also get a crash course in whisky-drinking at The Wall and try out whisky from all over the world including Scotland’s highlands, award-winning Japanese whisky or fruity Taiwanese whisky,
The Wall, 76 Tanjong Pagar Road. p. 6225 7988.
