Orchard Road is bringing on the Christmas vibes with lights, markets, and of course, more shopping!
You know what comes after Halloween in Singapore? Christmas! Yes, that means a deluge of festive decor and Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ blasting from speakers everywhere. We may not have the wintery weather to remind us of the holidays, but there is one thing that can put you in the mood while shopping for presents at Orchard: Christmas on A Great Street. Besides the gorgeous lights lining the street, the annual attraction will see new additions including a duplex pop-up, early light-ups and more — get into the mood, people!
Instagram-worthy Christmas lights
Singapore’s annual razzle-dazzle will span 2.88km from Tanglin Mall shopping centre to Plaza Singapura, where the city’s famed shopping district turns into an ‘Endless Wonder’ of fairy lights, magical globes and luminous Christmas trees. Using energy-saving LED lights, the key displays to look out for include a 20-metre long indefinite-shaped light-reflective tunnel (The Walk of Wonder), a four and a half metres free-flowing tree with a clock that counts down to Christmas Day (The Tree of Time), another giant tree with an illuminated canopy that reveals twinkling stars when you stand underneath it (The Enchanted Tree), as well as a mini arch and an info set piece decorated with spellbinding, festive ornaments.
Daytime lights
For the first time, the Christmas lights will be turned on earlier at 3pm instead of 6.30pm, and the annual light-up ceremony will be held on 11 November at 6.30pm at ION Orchard.
First-ever duplex Great Carousel at The Christmas Village — and Santa!
Located at Ngee Ann Civic Plaza, the first-ever duplex Great Carousel will be featured alongside the Hitachi Santa House and al fresco dining. Shop and grab a bite or two at a slew of over 25 pop-up stores nearby including Fish & Co., Katoshka, PAUL, Starbucks, Toast Box, Jack Wills, Royal Selangor, The Juicebox, Christmas Bonanza (of course), and more. You can also catch Santa Claus at The Village on 8 December.
The Christmas Village operates from 25 November to 25 December 2017
Pop-up stores along Orchard Road
Another first, the Christmas event will also feature pop-up stores by SK-II, Haagen Dazs, Casio, Tiffany & Co. Fragrances, Fuchsia Creative, and shop!, located between Wisma Atria and Mandarin Gallery. SK-II and Haagen Dazs will be debuting pop-stores, bringing a different kind of shopping experience to visitors. The SK-II Change Destiny Pop-Up will consist of interactive art and installations, as well as a cold room cafe where you can test your skin conditions under cold temperatures. Haagen Dazs, on the other hand, will have a snow room (isn’t it a treat to have your ice-cream without worrying about it melting?) and DIY workshops.
Uniqlo Music in the Air
Back by popular demand, Uniqlo Music in the Air will take place between ION Orchard and Ngee Ann City to add music to your stroll down Christmas on A Great Street. Its 18 outdoor speakers will be playing Christmas carols daily, with a live DJ on deck to provide you real-time promotion updates and song dedications on weekends. Yup, you can request songs and shout-outs for your friends and family.
Christmas Eve Countdown Concert
Ah, nothing like Christmas tunes to turn up the festive spirit. Get your squad down to the Endless Wonder Christmas Village on Christmas Eve where the line-up of local bands and artists will belt out classics, as well as popular singalongs in English and Mandarin starting from 8pm. And if you stay a little longer, you might even be treated to an impressive pyrotechnics show at the stroke of midnight!
