Savour the best of both worlds with chilli crab quesadillas, Thai chicken tacos and hokkien mee pasta
We’re always game to try new food combinations, especially when they’re inspired by Singaporean cuisine. From nasi lemak burgers to ramen-styled wanton mee, if there’s a creative twist on our local favourites, we’re there! So naturally, when we heard about Hotel Jen Orchardgateway’s new East Meets West buffet, we brought the crew – read on for our faves…
This isn't your typical hotel buffet. Load up on laksa pizza, Hokkien mee pasta, paella kueh pie tee, and more!

Perk Alert!
Because we love you, we’ve hooked you up with Hotel Jen – just mention Honeycombers when you’re making your reservation and you can enjoy the buffet at only $70 nett for two. (U.P. $42++/person)
Surf and turf with a twist
While we simply can’t get enough of the obligatory fresh seafood spread, we love Hotel Jen’s surprising takes on the buffet staple. Try the chilli crab quesadillas – spicy-sweet crabmeat layered with cheese tucked into a crispy tortilla, and Thai chicken chop tacos: Thai-styled chicken in a crunchy taco shell. For more crispy goodness, dig into fish and chips battered with you tiao (fried dough fritters). Another dish that’ll send all diets packing? Thai fried chicken wings stuffed with creamed potatoes and parma ham.
Carb up with unconventional combos
Still feeling peckish? Scoop up some hokkien mee pasta. Instead of using yellow noodles, the stir-fried hawker favourite receives the Italian treatment with spaghetti. Pizza lovers, get a load of this: skip your usual pepperoni pizza and pick up slices topped with delicious Korean pork bulgogi with kimchi and feta cheese, or for a more local flavour, try the laksa pizza covered with river prawns and fish cake.
If you’re up for a little DIY action, head to the kueh pie tee (a Peranakan thin and crispy pastry shell) station, where you won’t find the usual shredded turnip fillings. Instead, you’ll get to stuff your shells with fresh seafood paella and garnish them with traditional ingredients such as chopped hard-boiled eggs and peanuts.
Revisit reliable favourites
We can’t forget the crowd-pleasers, so make your way to the seafood counter for fresh crab claws, clams, prawns and black mussels. There’s also the sushi station where you’ll find plenty of salmon sashimi and sushi rolls. Stop by the salad bar for more unique creations such as glass noodles with chicken bulgogi and green mango salad with pasta. And if there’s still room for desserts (we’re sure there is), try the Nonya kuehs, panna cotta served with an Asian fruit salad, or red velvet cake paired with longan compote.
