The Brunch Bandits are taking over The Great Escape bar on Beach Road for a pop-up event about brunch and books
A swell brunch should be like a good book – stimulating, well-paced, authored with love. Like reading, we don’t wanna be rushed while munching on our eggs ben, or feel disappointed from a coffee with a flat execution. But wait – you’ve heard this story before, haven’t you? Plot twist: this isn’t anything like your typical Sunday brunch; this is a brunch based on books. Aptly titled A Most Novel Brunch, this communal pop-up dining affair (happening one night only!) will be curating its dishes based on revered relics of literature, casually congregating folks who love fictitious art as much as home-cooked nosh. Behold: this is a new chapter for brunch dining.
The first of three brunch sessions, this imaginative feast has been put together by the Brunch Bandits, who are no strangers to such off-kilter concepts. After all, these nomadic meal maestros have whipped up spreads for rooftop suppers in Kuala Lumpur, pop-ups in London and World Sessions in SG with cuisine from Kenya, Brazil, Jamaica and more. This time, they’re taking over the rooftop bar of urban, artsy cinema, The Projector – otherwise clandestinely known as The Great Escape. ’Cos what’s an excellent story without a cosy – and slightly mysterious – setting, right?
While the menu has been kept hush-hush (who likes spoilers anyway?), A Most Novel Brunch has revealed that it’ll be prepping dishes based on excerpts from Salman Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children and Marcel Proust’s In Search Of Lost Time. We can only fathom that this will mean variations of British-Indian (from the former) and French (the latter) cuisine; five courses will be served in total, together with a welcome bevvie. So take the boredom out of the brunch, and mingle away with other bookworms and foodies – this certainly looks to be a story worth remembering.
